My Moto G7 Plus is not quite as good as it was so I'm looking for a replacement.
Android but would like Wi-Fi calling this time (we are with Three. They sent us a signal booster box but that's rather unreliable)
Similar size and spec with 128GB storage
Quite like Moto but open to other suggestions.

  • I've just upgraded from a Moto G7 Power to a Samsung A52s 5G. Pleased with the Samsung although the interface is more involved (aka complicated) than the Moto. It's a step-up in quality (screen, build, processor etc) but that's reflected in the price.

With various cashbacks & discounts available in December was able to buy for <£200.

A word on wi-fi calling, do not believe that a particular model of phone will work on a particular network unless you see it with your own eyes.

If you have and like the Moto G series, then I can see nothing better to swap to.

I currently have the G7 Power, following previous G4.

My wife currently has the G9 Play following previous G5 which, in turn, followed a G4.

Is there a site that tells me which ones do wifi calling?
    Can't see it on gsmarena.

Google suggested a g50, but when I looked, it didn't seem any better than what I already have!

Not that simple I'm afraid. For example, the same phone may well work on O2 PAYM but not on O2 PAYG, 3, iD or Vodafone (my wife's A52s sourced from O2). My A52s (sourced from ao.com) will not work with Vodafone PAYM nor O2 but is fine with 1p. Pretty much all Apple and recent Android phones are capable of wi-fi calling but their configuration may not allow it.

On my assessment, the G9 and G10 are the equivalent successors to the G7.

What are you actually seeking now from a phone?  These "successor" models aren't massively "better" but newer and have the incremental advances.

I am not quite sure what you meant in the OP:

I interpreted that to mean you basically wanted "same again" but without the battery degradation over the years and without the sluggishness that tends to creep in as memory / storage gets full.

I can't comment on the WIFI-calling, other than to say I have only ever done that through WhatsApp which I understand is available on any phone.  I think you are after a slight different functionality to that.

Sometimes, my Whatsapp notifications sounds don't work - is that WhatsApp or the phone?
    The storage is quite full
I would like to use WiFi calling on Three pay monthly
The battery is a little tired
A better camera would be nice
Not too much bigger than my current model
(My friend with his Nokia 3310 commented that he was amused by his friends who all had phones the size if a small TV!!!!)

True, however in some cases it's down to the network provider rather than the handset e.g. O2 PAYG doesn't support WiFi calling at all, irrespective of handset, because it isn't offered on PAYG by the network (that's why Tesco Mobile doesn't have it either).

True that. I guess what we are both saying is that are several reasons why wi-fi calling may NOT work and if having it available on your handset is an essential then check it out first.

Hmm, how would I do that?
