Vodafone won't end my contact but my internet has never worked properly.

Dropping out even when connected to the router with a cable. The BT engineer plugged his cable in and on his phone he could see the drop outs and witnessed the Internet light going off then rebooting. Vodafone told him it wasn't happening. He couldn't believe what he was hearing.cx6 said:Can you be absolutely clear - is it the wifi internet connection that is dropping out or are you still having dropouts when you connect to the router by cable.
you said the bt engineer confirmed no fault on the line but could see it dropping out in front of him?0 -
If the router is rebooting it's unlikely to be a downstream fault. I would guess:
- the router is faulty, or
- the power supply is faulty, or
- the socket the psu is plugged into is faulty
You said Vodafone sent you a replacement router. Did you swap the psu too?N. Hampshire, he/him. Octopus Intelligent Go elec & Tracker gas / Vodafone BB / iD mobile. Yes it was all swapped for new. The router power stays on but the internet light goes off and flashes red and then goes back white when the internet connects again. Both routers did it. The BT guy swapped the phone socket too for one with a filter as he said sometimes the ones they send to plug on can cause issues if they aren't very good. I live on a row of identical terraced houses and I'm the only one with this issue so I know its not my house layout. Recently the wifi stopped reaching further than the room with the router. They said there was no issue but it has got a bit better. They got me to reset my router and put it on a differ t frequency but that hasn't helped either.QrizB said:If the router is rebooting it's unlikely to be a downstream fault. Thank you for your input. I really appreciate it. I've been going round in circles and as much as I want to get away from Vodafone I do also worry I'll move to BT or someone and the same will occur. I've had 4 BT engineers and they all assume its the router but I have had it swapped and Vodafone refuse to replace routers unless you tell them they are totally dead. They also say that the internet light doesn't flash red at all even when it is so I have lost faith.0 -

You can pick up a used TP Link Archer from eBay (other tat peddlers are available) for under £20. If you do this you'll need to get your login details from Vodafone (unless they're available from the config page of their router, I haven't checked). While I was still ADSL I used an old Draytek router in preference to the Technicolor ones the ISPs provided. Thank you. I will look into that. I appreciate the advice.QrizB said:vea44 said:I've had 4 BT engineers and they all assume its the router but I have had it swapped and Vodafone refuse to replace routers unless you tell them they are totally dead. You could try a completely different router? Just ditch Vodaphone, they are wasters. Stop paying them and change to an ISP that does not spend so much on advertising. I use UNO.I was originally with Demon who were superb until they were bought by Vodaphone who act like gangsters. I then ditched Vodaphone and after a few heated phone calls with their Indian call centre, and threatening letters, I heard no more from them.Don't hire a router from an ISP, buy your own. I use an ASUS. They are usually better, in the end they are cheaper, and you are not beholden to the ISP.0

This is exactly the same issue I'm having. I've been complaining to them almost daily and they just close any tech support tickets because they "can't" see the issue.
If you're using windows 10, the event viewer keeps a record of internet connections and drops.
Keep a record of everything. Take pics of the router. Because they're the most dishonest, uncooperative company to deal with.
They try telling me to use ethernet when the WiFi isn't dropping. There's literally no internet connection0 -
Sounds like you need more of a modem (the device providing you with broadband out of a phone line) than a router ( the device regulating traffic on your home network).vea44 said:

Not all routers have an integrated modem.0
