I gave up in the end trying to convince HMRC that money reported, but inaccessible, in multi year FRBs shouldn't be taxed yearly.

Interestingly, they don't tax me yearly on 3 year NsandI bonds.

I got this e-mail too. This suggests that DF is anticipating the base rate to rise this year.

Can you just open any account with them to then become an 'existing customer' to get those rates?

It doesn't state either way. It just says log into your account and view the available options. They've withdrawn the Easy Access Account, presumably to stop people doing just that.

This should work because there's no mention of the length of the custom, but the choice of accounts available for new customers is limited to 4.4% 1 year fixed and 4.5% 5 years fixed, £1k minimum.
