Who's considering longer than 1 year fixes.

I know it's a guessing game, but who's going for 5 year fixes?

(Assuming of course you are able to fix for longer than a year)
I went out as far as 3 years when rates were north of 5%. I wouldn't risk 5 years at 4.55%. There is a lot of instability around the world, and that is inflationary. Rates could settle close to where we are today.

I've got quite a lot in 2-year and a bit in 3-year, on the basis that rates are likely to go down over that period. Reluctant to go longer with the rates on offer. 5 or 7 years is a long time and perhaps other investments might do better over those timescales.

I have found a fixed rate account with Progressive Building Society @ 5.2% that is still available. I cannot see that it is mentioned on this thread - apologises if I have missed it. It doesn't seem to have been highlighted on any financial websites so I wondered if there was a problem with it or whether it hade been missed (which seems odd). Has anyone else opened and funded this account? Thanks, Emma.
Online accounts - Progressive Building Society (theprogressive.com)

It's only visible when you login I think

Was mentioned previously, but if anyone is on a mobile and wondering why progressive only have one account in each section, it's because you have to swipe left on the account that is visible to reveal each one in turn, gallery style. Even after reading about it on here I still couldn't find this account for a while this morning!

Five years? Nah I'm not that brave. I opened a two year a couple of months ago, that's my limit.

As to interest rates I read an interesting piece a few day's ago about rate's finding their natural equilibrium, as we were before the financial crash of 2008. Barring another meltdown, rate's are expected to settle at around 3.5%. Some economists expect as low 3%, some as high as 4%.
  • Anyone who has opened a fixed bond with Ford Money recently, was the opening procedure straightforward? i.e. all online, no selfies or extra id needed and no postal involvement.

It's been just over 4 years since I opened my first fixed saver account with Ford Money, but I didn't have to send them any ID/selfies or other proof through the post.

Whether you'll have to will depend on whether you pass their online verification checks, though.

Opening an online account was straight-forward and the faster-payment deposit I made immediately was credited the next working day (their payment schedules have improved since though and I think payments in are generally credited sooner than they used to be, although still not immediately).

All depends. Seems to be the best notice account at the moment: 5.25% with 104 days notice of a rate reduction (£5k min). Of course no good if you need money sooner and if you can tie it up for longer a fixed rate product may do better.

Mostly one year fixes but a couple of 18 month and a single three year fix. I dont expect it will make much difference.

Really like Investec but I wouldn’t put more than £85k anywhere.
