Personally I think it makes sense to have a decent proportion of your cash earning over 5% for the next 5 years…rates may yet go a little higher but not much higher imo. I certainly think the average rate over 5 years will be much lower than 5%. The usual caveat of being sure you won’t need that money applies of course and I always prefer an option that pays interest monthly.. I have 40% of my cash locked away for 5 years at 5% paying monthly and the £400 a month it adds to my db pension is very welcome…CaptainWales said:Of the tandem rates is 5 year at 5.35% really that attractive? You had 100k in Atom, I thought max should be 85k?Thumbs_Up said:I have to wait one calendar month to get access to my money (100k) from Atom. This may or may not work in my favour. Despite my comments about 5.5% to come, these 5 year rates are hard not to say no. I won’t be sticking in 100k again though, sorry Atom!
To be honest I thought you could only save 100k across all accounts, it seems not now.
You shouldn’t really put in more then 85K for your own peace of mind.

81k max at 5%, return after a year is 85,050.00 only £50 is at risk then.

Rates will undoubtedly go higher but do we think in say 2/3/4 years they will still be this high? Of course we don’t ‘now but I doubt it so yes it looks good to me but interest is paid away so not for meCaptainWales said:Of the tandem rates is 5 year at 5.35% really that attractive? I will stick to Zopa, HTB and Coventry all my life. I wouldn't put a penny in a company playing with my money 1p a day to be top of the table in a childish competition. No thank you, I wanna sleep tight at night. But it is just my feeling of course.LJ._2 said:

I can't think why you'd call it "childish". They do it to appear at the top of tables like those provided by MSE, because that gets them noticed and used more. It's a rational business decision. How having people running a business with rational decisions affects your sleep, I cannot fathom.francoghezzi said:

As I said just my feeling. Judging by their annual balance they are far, far away from the top companies anyway. I'm interested to see how many of these companies 'rationally operating" will still be up and running in few years ...EthicsGradient said:

Fair comment, but you can still sleep soundly at night by their website comment "With FSCS protection, we’ll keep your money locked away safely for the fixed term." I'm looking to get and save every penny I can!francoghezzi said:
