Do we have to pay the additional 54% and then in October there's £200 credit applied to the bill, or are the prices going to reflect the £200 we're going to get?

Its fairly easy to opt out, just let the £200 credit sit in your energy account and run down over 5 years. If your account is £200 in credit then you actually owe nothing.
If your energy company cuts your DD because you're in credit (and how many will do that anyway) you can just manually put the DD back up.

A joke of course but what does happen if you do?Nothing happens, there is no personal allocation of the 'debt' it is just a one-off credit to every energy account open at that point in time, recovered over the following years by way of an increase in the electricity standing charge paid by everyone who has an energy account at that time...There is no connection between the two, so some will get the credit and never pay anything extra (no electricity account any more for whatever reason)... and some will not get the credit (no energy account at the right moment in time) but will pay the increased standing charge because they have an energy account at that time...

Surely the Government will own your debt ridden body & use it for the Eco Soylent Green project?

You pay for the Warm Home discount, you pay for smart metering, you pay to reimburse customers of energy companies that have gone bust, you pay for people to get free solar panels and loft insulation.
If you move suppliers will they expect payment in full before leaving?
