Thank you, yes it was you that I was thinking of!GibbsRule_No3. said:
QrizB it might have been me asking about the HA voucher. They sent me a voucher, due to the Energy rating of the property. Reading the voucher it only mentioned going to a PayPoint shop and having the £20x4 payments put on three types of prepayment options. I pay via DD so enquired how that would work with the voucher, seems they sent the wrong voucher to me and I should receive the correct one within 48 hours. So I assume with this new announcement vouchers will be given to prepayment meter people to allow the top up.QrizB said:Pre-paid smart meters (topped up with an app) can be credited remotely.Key meters? Yet to be seen, although there are various options. Someone said this week that they'd been sent a voucher by their HA, for example.

Well yes, there is that !! 😉What_time_is_it said:To be honest it wouldn't surprise me if the whole thing unravelled and the policy is reversed before the price cap even takes effect in April. It's a rubbish scheme.How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -

It wouldn't surprise me if this becomes a 'rabbit out of the hat' moment at the end of a Budget speech, - the Chancellor looks to have come to the end and is winding up his speech and then says 'one last thing - I am cancelling this year's electricity repayment so that's another £40 for everyone and I commend this to the House'.What_time_is_it said:To be honest it wouldn't surprise me if the whole thing unravelled and the policy is reversed before the price cap even takes effect in April. This is another scheme which only puts off a big surprise, this year we were expecting a rise of around 100 pound possibly more in the council tax, so a 150 pound rebate effectively then becomes a 50 pound or less reduction on last years bill. but come next year I presume the council tax will need to go up by 100 or even 150 pounds (high energy bills for buildings one factor i guess) so that will mean this years and next years rise will hit at the same time meaning next year it will feel like a 250 pound rise in my council tax.Astria said:Sea_Shell said:

Why if bills have to go up can we not get it all out the way and not just compound any rises in the future with what we put off from the past?1 -
I also wonder how a £200 discount in October is going to skew my monthly payments set over a year.
I already had one issue last year where my supplier tried to say I wasn't paying enough per month and nearly doubled the payments, i complained and got them put down and was proved right they didnt need to go up. Baking in £200 is going to put folks in credit thinking they can drop the payments well below what they think they need or leave others with big credit balances with the energy companies.
the whole scheme seems a farce.
just get the energy system sorted and invest in renewable energies for everyone so we are not reliant on the world markets or big businesses, but then again that doesnt fit the narrative.2 -

Keep your direct debit the same and the account will have £200 in excess which will then be paid back in £40 lumps during the next five years but you may as well as enjoy the temporary improvement in cash flow.

Oh yayQrizB said:From what's been said, my best guess based on this Treasury factsheet and pending any more specific info:- Every domestic electricity account will be credited with £200 in October this year;
- Every domestic electricity account will see an ~11p/day increase to the standing charge from some-time-in-2023.

As soon as it was framed as a loan, to avoid it being called a tax, the call from those not wanting an enforced loan was going to be heard.
This may gain more traction as the fallacy of the policy is examined in more detail. Due to the time before this £200 loan is given it is almost a kite flying policy. If it doesn't fly there is plenty of time for a change in policy.1
