It's not like a normal loan, think of it as spreading the cost across everyone's bills over the next five years. There is no escaping it unless you go off grid.

........ or die in the coming couple of years !

If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.

If you want to opt out you can go off-grid...

...there's probably plenty of firewood available at the moment.

Kinda like the £125 I'm going to get off my council tax bill in April, that's gone to be paid back by an increased council tax bill next year :D
You couldn't make this stuff up :D
This is another scheme which only puts off a big surprise, this year we were expecting a rise of around 100 pound possibly more in the council tax, so a 150 pound rebate effectively then becomes a 50 pound or less reduction on last years bill. but come next year I presume the council tax will need to go up by 100 or even 150 pounds (high energy bills for buildings one factor i guess) so that will mean this years and next years rise will hit at the same time meaning next year it will feel like a 250 pound rise in my council tax.

Why if bills have to go up can we not get it all out the way and not just compound any rises in the future with what we put off from the past?
Not everybody gets the rebate though, so for many of us the bills will go up to pay for rebates that went to households with higher incomes than us because of a valuation some years ago. We already know ours is going up £107 (5%) this coming year but at some point all these handouts have got to be paid for.

The £150 Council Tax rebate is being paid by central government from general taxation. Your Council Tax won't go up to pay for it, although your income tax / VAT / NI etc. might.
