Actually Ofgem says the price cap is to rise by £693: for direct debit customers the cost per kWh of electricity will be 28p and for Gas 7p per kWh.

Andy1T said:All this talk and hype about those fortunate to live in a home with mains gas and/or electricity. What about a price cap for the significant numbers of people living in rural homes who MUST use oil or natural gas?I recently bought small quantities of domestic heating oil Kerosene for a space heater, cost in 25 litre drums was 70p a Litre from Stoddards in Cheadle, Staffordshire. That was sold from their yard pump so I assume a higher per litre price for small quantities than a 500 - 1000 litre delivery.I looked back at my receipt from this time last year and it was 74p a Litre purchased the same way. Not sure where the increase is that you are talking about?.According to a quick Google-Fu you get 10kw of heat from burning a litre of Kero, so my 70p a litre would produce 10kw worth of heat, so the cost per kw/h effectively is 7p - if you bought in the summer for 50p a litre, then it would be 5p per kw/h - Gravy!.Of course no oil boiler is 100% efficient, but even if you were using a 30 year old heating system giving 50% efficiency, the cost would be 14p per kw/h. Which is massively better than the 21p we are currently paying, and 28p we will soon be paying per kw/h for Electricity. Compared to some, you are much better off.Of course, fill your tank in mid Summer when heating oil prices plummet and get a boiler which is as close to 100% efficient as you can, to extract the most heat out of every litre of oil.I've seen heating oil prices as low as 36p per litre frequently during the Summer months. Last years 29p per litre was probably an outlier given nobody was flying. But you never know, with most of us about £3000 a year worse off this year nobody will be going on holiday, will they..........That of course is another advantage you have. Oil prices always plummet in the Summer months, whilst Gas and Electricity is a year around constant price. Hedge your future use, by buying your future winter requirements and filling your oil tank in July or August when the price is at its lowest."Dont expect anybody else to support you, maybe you have a trust fund, maybe you have a wealthy spouse, but you never know when each one, might run out" - Mary Schmich2

I have not looked recently but I expect the cost of celotex board insulation has gone crazy, too, if you want to super-insulate your house, so I guess that millions of people will be burning oi, wood and even coal rather than use gas... at least until council cadres start hammering on you door and fining you for being non-Green

When I fixed, the spot price for Gas was £1.80 a therm, since mid January it has hovered around £2.20 down to £1.80 a therm, today being £1.80. I fixed at £97 a month. The price cap was based on the price during October -January, where the peak was well over £4 a therm!
While I cannot see tomorrow, as a good guess, with lower consumption in the spring deals may be coming soon! But at what price to fix?I work from home so my cat can be fed on demand!0 -

Sorry, if I don't sell my house in the next couple of months will be having the gas supply capped, simply not giving these people my money. Live in the far south so can get away with minimal heating.

Does anyone know where (or when) to find the ACTUAL costs per kWh and also standing charges. The costs for the mythical "average user" don't actually help me.

the govt is gonna take out a £200 loan on my behalf eh?
ok but what happens when the gas prices stay high?
another £200 loan?
and another?
heres a idea bin the green bollox from your stupid wife and start fracking
and start to build nuclear power stations
so we can get to energy independence by 2030
not zero carbon that cannot ever be achieved with windmills that only work
