Meter running when electric turned off.

  • Are you keeping daily meter readings of both meters, just to get some evidence of typical use?
I haven't been sadly as I didn't know it was the issue.  But will do so for the rest of then month. The landlord has a reading for when next door moved in just a week before me so this should hopefully help with accuracy and I will be of course recording both meters when i leave also.
I just did a final test when I was out for 2hrs this morning and turned of all my electric, my meter recorded usage but next doors showed no use so this totally confirms it!

Do you know the readings from the move in dates?

I don't have them yet but will get them of landlord once he has come round and confirmed the meters are switched

Once you move out ,it will be virtually impossible to sort ,so treat it as priority A -Get on to the suppliers pronto!
  • Really no matter how much evidence I collect? From what I've read this doesn't seem an issue that will be resolved in a matter of weeks :/brewerdave said:

The problem will be that you won't have access to the meters ,so if the landlord and other tenants ignore the issue or worse deny there is a problem there will be no way of proving the issue to the supplier.
  • Do you know for sure that it's a simple case of flats 8 & 9 being billed to the other.  Could it be meter 9 is yours, flat 8 uses meter 7, flat 7 uses meter...

I know I can only be sure that mine is running to whats labelled as flat 9s, I will leave the rest of the investigating to the landlord as it will need access to their flats etc.
I did ring my energy company and they simply needed evidence by pictures of the two meters half hour apart whilst leaving my electric off to show the meter which didn't move. I know they'll be more steps needed but at least I can establish which is mine to keep evidence off last meter read etc on leaving.
