Child tax credit award

Hi I have just done a benefit calculator on a website and I am on legacy benefits. I receive £240 every Friday for three children and one of the three being disabled. The calculator says I should be getting £267 a week. Does anyone know which sounds more right.

Any advice

Thanks

Kim

Difficult to say without your full financial details and circumstances.

The key will be if your disabled child is classified as "severely disabled" or "disabled" for CTC.

Disabled would get you to the £240
Severely disabled would get you to the £267.

Do you claim DLA or PIP for the disabled child? If so does this include the high rate care DLA or Enhanced daily living PIP? If it does then your tax credits should include the disabled element and the severe disabled child element.
If it's low or mid rate care DLA or PIP Standard daily living then your award should include the disabled child element.
You will need to check your award to see what's included.

I only receive benefits my son gets higher rate care and lower rate mobility. I have manage my tax online but can't seem to find the award on there.
Last year I renewed his dla claim and it went up to higher rate from middle would that make a difference.

Family element (one per family) £545
Child element (paid for each child or qualifying young person)  £2,845
Disability element of Child Tax Credit, where the child or qualifying young person is disabled (paid in addition to the child element) £3,435
Disability element of Child Tax Credit, where the child or qualifying young person is severely disabled (paid in addition to the child element) £ 4,825

Severely disabled - You may get the severely disabled rate of the disability element of £4,825 for each child or qualifying young person you’re responsible for if they’re paid either: • DLA (highest rate care component)

Have you told Tax Credits your son now gets the higher rate care ?
(And so now qualifies for the severely disabled rate rather than just the disabled rate).

    £545 plus 3 times £2,845 plus £4,825 divided by 52 = £267 pw.

I have not told them I didn't know about it. I was only taking the benefits calculator because I am struggling to manage and saw this ad on Internet saying people are missing out on entitled benefits every year. Think you just assume that they know.

It could be that you're not claiming the severaly disabled child element. You'll need to ring them first thing tomorrow morning and report the changes. It may not be backdated to when the high rate DLA was awarded. I'm unsure how far back HMRC will backdate it.

It does say on all letters "all changes must be reported"

I will ring them in the morning and that them know. I think they will only back pay for a month suppose its a lesson learnt. Could have been years before I realised stupid really.

    Thanks

Carer's allowance is taxable and therefore counts as income for tax credits. Whether it will impact your award/create an overpayment depends on what other benefits you get and your total income.
