Royal Mail did clearly state on their website that there was no time limit on the use of decimal stamps. I saved it when I bought a load - just in case.

They’re not backtracking from this assurance, just requiring the stamps to be replaced. I have no problem with that.

Banknotes are replaced every so often for security reasons, and to invalidate any forgeries in circulation. This looks to be for similar reasons - is that such a big deal?

at least uou could walk into a bank with an old note and get it replaced with a new one there and then (or pay it into your account)

with stamps, you have to post them away and as far as I can see you bear the risk of loss or theft, not RM

I’ve no idea where you’re getting that idea from…Royal Mail are responsible for the stamps until after they have been delivered to you. Also, if you’re sending more than £200, then you should use special delivery and you’ve got compensation for any loss that way too.
6.3 Delivery of the barcoded stamps will be deemed to be completed on delivery of the replacement barcoded stamps to the address specified in your swap out form.
7.1 When the replacement barcoded stamps are delivered in accordance with Clause 6.3, the risk and ownership of the replacement barcoded stamps will pass to you and we will not be liable for loss or damage after that time.

Don’t forget your proof of posting of course , for under £200 of stamps it is free post so just get a POP for over £200 stamps are sent special delivery and the postage repaid.

My stamps came back today , it was my trial under £200 lot sent free post with a POP and I was sent back slightly more due to rounding up.

Just keep hold of your proof of purchase, but the chances of something handed in over the counter at a PO and going to RM getting lost are pretty remote.

Are you serious?  These things will shout ‘Steal me’ at every stage before delivery. I’m just curious to know what proof RM will require of stamp values when Special Delivery envelopes go missing.

At a time, Royal Mail advised taking copies of the forms which were sent but I can’t find that statement anymore. It seems like the sensible thing to do though, so I’ve taken pictures of the form alongside all the stamps which I’m sending. I suspect Royal Mail will be pretty keen to ensure that there are no losses of stamps in either direction and will have processes in place to confirm this - it’s very unlikely that anyone will be able to get away with sending them an empty envelope and claiming that the stamps have been nicked in transit, as they will require evidence that you sent something and that something will no doubt be opened in the presence of CCTV, where any signs of prior tampering will be noted.

It was part of their terms and conditions which RM have deleted. This link gives me a 404
