I have a very, very old Iphone no longer able to get Watsapp.

I don't do many apps and no more than 2-300 pictures and possible about 10 videos average length 3 minutes.

I have several apps,  inc 2 for home security.

I want it to surf the net pretty fast but don't download movies etc just read the news and look on eBay/Rightmove, etc.

Are there service providers that work better with an Iphone and if so who and does this apply to the older iphones.

Currently, I'm with 3, PAYG and this is not a bundle. They charge 10p a minute per call. I've sent off for the Sada sim, 3p a call I think and texts are a little cheaper as well.

I don't want to spend more than 125 pounds but will push it to 150 pounds.

It will need to be able to go on any PAYG provider, ideally.

    aa]nyone, please?
  • With that budget you'll be lucky to get anything worth keeping long term as it'll be on an old ios etc. Does it really have to be apple?

I've got an iPhone X (aka. 10) and I've not found myself inclined to upgrade.
I think Apple may still be doing their thing of slowing down the older versions to keep customers on the upgrade hamster-wheel, but I'm in no rush and the newer ones don't seem to offer me anything in particular that I could identifiably want (maybe if 5G takes off big-time and I find out that I need it).

Service providers don’t matter, it’s their upgrades that stop the apps from working on older phones.

If it has to be apple, you might get an iPhone 7 second hand just within that budget. If it was me I’d try to stretch to the 8 to give you longer before the apps stop working again. Anything older than that I wouldn’t bother with. My 5 was replaced last year for that reason, that and the  battery life after their “upgrades.”

Have a look at CEX, they give a 2 year warranty although I have no idea what that covers.

Do you have broadband at home? If so, who’s your isp (internet service provider)?

The reason I ask is my ancient iPhone 6 is still working fine connected to our BT broadband and I have enough mobile data. My mobile internet costs me an extra £5 a month on top of the broadband charge. I use the internet for similar things to you.

The actual mobile I bought new quite a few years ago but it still works fine, especially for browsing the internet. The only thing it won’t do is the government test ‘n’ trace app and the John Lewis app.

Don’t know though if you can still buy second hand iPhone 6’s.

    would've . . . could've . . . should've . . .

    Thank you all.

Having read your comments. i will consider up to 180 pounds.

The present phone is a good 11 years old, stopped WhatsApp well over a year ago. Still works bought it new without a contract paid hundreds for it and kep it since.

The reason I want an Iphone is that I've noted Iphone appear to have better connections with the home security apps than opposed to Android which my wife and children have.

Someone here said its the updates on the apps that lets the phones down.

Would a 10 or 11 iphone meet my needs for several years?

Th 10 may be outdated, not sure.

I'm also worried about buying used as it could brek down the next day. However, new PAYG prices are for those that have money to throw away and not me.

More views are welcome.  Thank you all again.

If I were you, I would ask on the iPhone support forum

    https://discussions.apple.com/community/iphone

My advice would be to get the latest iPhone that you can afford - even if you have to stretch a bit - but not the most recent - as you say that is expensive.

I’d suggest the new SE - doesn’t have all the bells and whistles but it doesn’t sound as if you use those anyway - but even second hand that’s going to still be out of your price range.
If you’re on a 5 or older anything newer will look good and meet your needs by comparison.
Pro and pro Mac have all the fingerprint stuff, that you’ve never had so you won’t miss. Google yourself for the differences.

Here’s an iOS update list, but as we know they carry on working well for a few years after the update support ends so you can add a couple of years onto the support end date.

The amount of storage depends on how many apps you have and what you download to your phone. I’d be looking at the 64, purely because there’s more and more apps you may find useful over time.
