Thanks Jackie xxI managed the mash and a couple small bits of sausage. The stewed apple is a good idea as I have some apples as I had been planning on making crumble. My appetite definitely hasn't been as good as usual (no bad thing as I'm trying to lose weight) but I know I need some calories to fight off the tonsillitis. I also feel knackered, which is hardly surprising, so I'm just resting as much as possible.Grocery budget in 2023 £2279.18/£2700Grocery budget in 2022 £2304.76/£2400Grocery budget in 2021 £2107.86/£2200Grocery budget in 2020 £2193.02/£2160Saving for Christmas 2023 #15 £ 90/ £3659

You can make your own ice lollies with fruit juice or sodas like root beer or cokes. When I was younger my mother would make Kool-Aid ice cubes in the trays and we would wrap the bottom in a paper towel and wander around the neighborhood singing Heigh-Ho, Heigh-Ho from Snow White. It had just been released again as a movie. You can even make them in mugs with a spoon as the stick.10

I was at one during the week on Thursday and talking to one of the assistants and she said she noticed how the smaller trolleys run out quicker than the larger ones, and said the shoppers are certainly not buying as they used to do, especially in the food departments.

The 2 supermarkets I frequent have pull-trolleys (rolling baskets); they are always out these days! So, I have to go back out and get a proper trolley from outside, and go through the proper check-out instead of self-checkout.

JackieO xxI'd probably fall in and not be able to get out so it's a smaller trolley/basket on wheels or a hand held basket for me when I do our small top-up shops. I have deliveries for the larger shops of heavy or bulky items.
A while ago I ordered a new pair of flannelette sheets, two mattress protectors and a duvet set. They've arrived just in time for the colder weather with the sheets going on the bed today - I'm looking forward to a cosy night!
What to do with the old mattress protectors? Well, one has runs along the sides (a bit like ladders in nylon stockings) and the middle of the part that sits on the mattress is holey, but there's a full width strip top and bottom that will make a couple of pillow protectors. I think I'll cut the other one down to fit the spare single bed.
At the end of last week I had a text from the pharmacy advising some medications were ready for collection. Not mine as I got them at the beginning of the month. Thinking they would be for DH I rang today to check - but no. Nothing for him and his script has expired too.So why did I get a text? Answer - no idea.
Surgery says pharmacy orders it automatically, pharmacy says surgery does it. Talk about right hand and left hand! Anyway, I've ordered a new script online so hopefully it will have got to the pharmacy and been filled by Wednesday so I can pick them up while we're at the GP surgery next door. Sometimes I'm convinced new systems that are designed to supposedly make life easier have exactly the opposite effect.
Still plugging away at trying to make some room in the freezer. It's slow going but some progress will be made this week if I stick to the meal plan.Be kind to others and to yourself too.8 -
"New and Improved" always seem to mean it just got worse. All these companies trying to make you do a two-step check-in are making it much harder. I don't have a cell phone, so if I'm not at home with my landline, I can't access anything on a computer. I got so frustrated with school doing this that I only was checking in once a week instead of daily to do my classwork. Talked the bank out of it after talking to half a dozen people first. And if I see they are improving a product, I look around for the old model or a different brand.11

That was when my mother realised her balance wasn’t as good as it used to be - when she was leaning over a trolley and toppled in headfirst.
I shouldn’t laugh, but it was funny. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.12 -

Brrr it’s chilly today 🥶
Luckily I’m not going anywhere. I had to collect some parcels yesterday so made the most of buying little bits towards families Xmas presents and some fruit. Also my bank account is looking very sad until I get paid tomorrow.
I’ve got a phone call with the occupational health people today as as of today i will have been on the sick 14 weeks. I had surgery and am not physically able to some of my old job yet but go onto half pay soon and really would love to be able to go back to work, not just for the money cos we’ll cope. I also see my consultant tomorrow so I’ll just have to wait and see.
I feel for people struggling with the cold weather and cost of food. We live on the coast and a lot of the housing is old and draughty. Our local library is set up as a warm hub and there are food banks but it’s disgusting that we live a one of the richest countries in the world and these are needed.
Anyway better go keep warm and well guys.
