Brrr, a chilly start to the new week - today has been a mix of sunshine and grey skies with bursts of icy rain. Our forecast for the next 10 days or so is top daytime temperatures of around 2 or 3 deg C and nighttime lows of -2 or -3 deg C. With that in mind, I'll make my weekly Co-op trip tomorrow before it gets that cold but I also have a hairdresser's appointment for Thursday, so I'm hoping it will stay fine for that. I don't particularly want to re-arrange it as I don't think I'd get a replacement appointment until the New Year and I really do need a cut before then.
Mr Postie brought our first Xmas card this morning and, although it was correctly addressed to us, I didn't recognise the writing. It was from my cousin's daughter and she'd enclosed a letter to let us know my cousin is now in a nursing home. At 90 years of age, she's lived a long life but now needs nursing care due to her frailty and frequent falls. I'm hoping to be able to visit her before Xmas.
Next doom and gloom was a text message from our GP surgery saying they have reached full capacity for the day and not to call unless it's urgent and to consult a pharmacy for advice. This isn't the first time we've had such a message over the last few weeks and, given we hardly ever need their services, it's rather worrying. It's supposedly down to staff shortages and increased demand.
On a brighter note, I've received the pensioners' £10 Xmas bonus plus my share of our winter heating allowance. I expect DH will get his next week.
Today I've made two mince beef & onion pies (two portions per pie), one for tomorrow's dinner and one for the freezer that's replaced some soup I've taken out to defrost for lunches this week.
Tonight I'll be sewing up some jumpers I've knitted for DD, not my favourite pastime, but needs must.Be kind to others and to yourself too.7 -
Just knitted another snowman just in case as I bet I will need it
I don't mind as it gives me a break from knitting charity blankets.
My eldest grandson Danny and his wife in the USA are expecting their first child in July, and we're hoping to know the sex of it shortly. Then it will definitely knitting needles clicking as my eldest DD and my son-in-law are going out to New York to visit them in March so they can take some nice baby bits with them. My DD is so excited to become a Nanny for the first timeDanny and Hayley moved out there after getting married in 2016 and I think my DD thought they wern't that interested in becoming parents. They will decide soon when they will move, as they live in Manhattan and its not condusive for a bay as they want a more of a country setting for the little one. His job is such he can work anywhere to be honest as he is a director of a large advertising agency and spends half his time flying around the world. I can't see them returning to the UK just yet awhile though.
Weather looks like its going to get a lot colder as the week wears onso I shall dig out my thick winter tights from last year to wear under my trouser as extra insulation
I've been tucked up with my heated throw this afternoon and feel quite warm and toastie and only actually had the heating on for an hour this morning
Keep warm chums and layer up

Cold here today - I received my order of SA casual uniform on Saturday - scarf, hat and gloves - need them now.

Cold here this morning brrr 🥶
Those tooth repair kits are v good. I had a filling come out a few years ago and it took the side of my tooth with it 😣 Dentist receptionist said get Toofy Pegs if you can find some, or just pack the hole with bread if you can’t. I maybe didn’t do the repair thing properly cos it didn’t stick, but the bread repair was brilliant.I oppose genocide. I support freedom of speech. I support freedom of assembly.9 -
London_1 said:Gosh its a very nippy one today ,I was going to go to the shops ,but decided it can wait until tomorrow, nothing needed urgently and tomorrow is my Dobbie's coffee morning so I will go there then have a mooch around the deli part to see if there are any bargains.
I'm still waiting for my large wool order to arrive from Sirdar, Evri say its in transit, but they have had it for almost a week. But I guess it will turn up eventually.
I'm running down my fresh stuff, if I can as I shall be too-ing and fro-ing between both DDs houses for a week betweenChristmas and New Year, popping back now and agin to make sure my house is OK.
Yesterday I spent the afternoon sewing up 12 Christmas snowmen for the Terry's Chocolate Oranges (cheapest place to buy the chocolate was Lidls, locally to me. @ 99p each).
What started as making one each for my two great granddaughters had expanded to 12 as folk saw them.
Good job I have a good stash of spare wool to use up.but they do look OK and they will be appreciated. £10 Christmas pensioners bonus popped into my bank account this morning which was a nice surprise,I had forgotten that we get it. it will get squirrelled away towards the January 'big shop afer Christmas. So far no money spent on my food budget this month so Decembers budget is intact at the moment.
Although I did treat my youngest DD to one of the Sainsbuys half price legs of lamb which she was really pleased about it was a good size and only just over £14.00 odd.But paid for it with nectar vouchers so really cost almost nothing at allMy kind of bargain

I haven't been able to use the tooth repair kit as there is a blank label stuck on the back of the pack - over the instructions.

Last night I sewed up a jumper I've knitted for DD - one down, two to go. At least it kept my knees warm while I was doing it!
Today I've written out the Xmas cards that need posting. I send them to very few people nowadays and it seems to be a smaller batch every year. I'm debating whether or not to bother putting up a Xmas tree and I think I probably won't. I'll be happy with a few fairy lights dotted about and a couple of candles.
Good luck with the tooth repair, Florenceem.Be kind to others and to yourself too.6
