I used to have an I PhOnE (3Gs) but I'm fully recovered now ;)

Is there any way of accessing my iTunes library to play on my Sonos system?

By iTunes library you mean songs you bought from iTunes rather than just MP3 files you added locally from some other source?

If so those purchases should be accessible from Apple Music these days and so see https://support.sonos.com/s/article/3282

And commiserations for no longer being an iPhone user

As was said, is your iTunes library (Mac or PC ...???) built from your own CDs, mp3 files imported from folders, or downloaded music? All, or some combination?

If it all came from CDs, and you still have the discs, I'd be tempted to just rip them again with EAC or dBPoweramp

    Thanks both
I transferred from CD to iTunes
I managed to install iTunes on my W10 PC after I'd posted but all I have in the library is the free U2 album that was given away in 2014 (?)

Sorry, the last time I did it Windows (7?) just asked if I wanted to send it to iTunes and I said yes - does that still happen?

The iTunes library is a file stored on the PC which lists all the tracks imported and tracks ripped from CDs are files stored on the PC too, they don't get uploaded to iCloud unless you pay Apple to do so.
So for your fresh install of iTunes it will only show music you've paid for from the iTunes store, which from what you've said is just the free U2 album.
Do you still have the files ripped from the CDs, did you back them up to an external drive? They are usually saved in the Music folder on Windows. If you no longer have the files, you'll have to rip the tracks from the CDs again.

Not sure what you mean by the offer to send to iTunes, I think there is some stuff to get album art and match titles better, but if you wanted the actual files to be stored you need to pay for iTunes Match and it sounds like you didn't.

I think you will need to rip the CDs again if you can't find a back up of the music files.

I suspect he means a right-click context menu option ... ripping by getting iTunes to do it (send to iTunes).

  • I remember a the time the U2 album was a pita to get rid of
Is iTunes on a pc called Apple Music now ? Possibly make a difference in trying to find it on pc?

Another annoying thing on a tangent is that the album artwork on my iTunes music library is often different from the original artwork .

Anyway, good advice above , and keep us posted ..

on a Windows PC it is still iTunes, can download from the Microsoft store now.
On Macs they've split it to seperate Music and TV apps.

If you want to "get rid" of things purchased on iTunes (including free items such as the U2 album) you just need to hide them

The services have just changed really... I dont use a personal computer much at all these days as tablet and phone does 99% of what I need. On mobile devices iTunes is simply an application for purchasing media, playback of media is done via Music or TV. The playback apps cover both purchased media, uploaded media and streaming services.

On a desktop iTunes remains a wider application covering both purchase and playback.

Given what you are actually talking about is local files that happen to be indexed in iTunes then you simply need to point the Sonos at the files
  • Thanks @Sandtree
The op has the sonus . Good point about personal computer . I use iPad most of the time.
I have an iMac ,as this seems / seemed the way to go when trying to record musical instruments etc . I have lots of iPad apps , and the way things are heading , I do wonder if I would need a Mac computer at all and just do everything on an iPad in the not too disant

That's another topic for discussion , so I'll try not to derail from this thread ..
