I went into a new contract in august.

I had a call today from Cardif.

When I said I didn’t want a smart meter, he said I would be moved into another tariff and sent a letter.

I said the small print said I didn’t have to have one. (Twice)

i said phone me back in summer.

He said he would put me down as not wanting a smart meter.

But I’m still expecting a letter wanting  me to move tarriff trying to get their money back.

Anyone else had this and outcome ?

A recent letter said I had accepted to have a call about a smart meter

  • I suggest that you look carefully at your contract terms and conditions. If the tariff that you have signed up to is conditional on you accepting a smart meter, then the supplier has the right to remove you from the tariff,

When you signed up to the contract with them you agreed to their terms and conditions, which includes having a smart meter installed, the relevant section is below. If you refuse the installation they can charge you the any relevant exit fees and put you on their SVR.

11.1.2 You agree to the installation of a Smart Meter, where eligible. You still qualify for this tariff if you already have a smart meter installed or it’s not currently possible to install a smart meter at your property.

    Ok. Checked my T&C's
I think my mistake was answering the phone, Beware! 02922229992

    1.3.2 Smart meters

1.3.3 We may contact you at any time to offer you a Smart meter. We will arrange an appointment with you for the installation of this. If you repeatedly refuse to allow us to install a Smart Meter, you may not be eligible for our full range of products and services, which may include specific Smart Meter tariffs which may be cheaper.

For many people it will be a different number and there is no point in ignoring, they will write to people after a number of calls requiring them to respond and if they don't then they will take action.

The simplest answer is to just sort out a date for them to install the smart meter.

@AndyPK Why the aversion to having a smart meter fitted?

It looks like humble pipe for me, or very expensive energy. I guess that's a reasonable exchange. I thought the goverment pushed the SM date out.

Working from home, in winter I don't really want my energy off for 2 hours. But that looks like what I will have to do.

A whole 2 hours isnt going to kill you, is it?

Make sure your laptop is charged, and tether it to your phone.
