Not the one on the front in the picture, it is the one on the side next to where espresso has put "pump speed control". Can't really see the position from here.
  • Hi

The setting is on the middle one
    see pic below

  • Is it just one pump then? If so then I would expect you also have a motorised valve that controls where the hot water goes. If it can only send the heated water in one circuit at a time usually the hot water gets priority. It could be a valve which also allows both to be heated at once, then the heat is shared and so is the effort of the pump, so I would expect both HW and rads to take longer to heat up.

Do you get any heat at all to the rads at first? That might indicate that both circuits are being heated at once.

On our system we have 2 pumps and can set different times for the HW and the rads. A second pump needs a slightly different pipe layout.

However I'm no plumber, just trying to picture in my head how ours works!

    Hi Jen

Perhaps i should conduct a couple of tests.......

maybe try just heating the water and see how long it takes for the water to get hot then turn off the water heating and see how long the rad heating takes to come on ?

    Sounds like a good idea.

Once the water is hot, even if it is still on, all the heat will go to the rads.

We tend to leave our HW on all the time and have the CH on the timer.

What thermostats do you have on the CH? Have you got thermostatic valves?

And have you turned the boiler thermostat right up?
  • ok first may sure the boilers own internal thermostat is turned up. ( if its set low then the boiler will cut out even if room stat is calling for heat). you can tell if this is happening as the pump will still run but the boiler stops.
if this is ok go round and bleed the rads with the central heating running ( give them plenty of time to push air out)
as said before turn the pump speed up to see if this helps.
if all this fails then you may have to start following the hot water pipes around to see wheres very hot ( from boiler ) and see where it gets to.

That is the bleed screw, for removing trapped air from the pump.

thanks for all the suggestions and advice..... im going to conduct some tests and report back... i have trvs on two rads and room stat is set to 30 degrees.

Also at the momment the pump setting is in the middle if i turn it up will it make thpump work faster/harder and pump around the hot water around all rads more quickly ?
