The new guy just emailed the quote through. £3700 including VAT! Nearly a grand more than the other private guy for the same boiler with the same work. I am flabbergasted and lost for words.I am based in West Sussex.0

I am flabbergasted and lost for words.I am based in West Sussex. If it is replacing an old non-condensing boiler and water tank in a gravity based system, it is a lot of labour. But then again, you do get companies quoting silly prices because they don't really need or want the job.If you now know the boiler you want, look on the manufacturer's website for local approved installers, and get a quote from one of those. Don't have to use them, but it gives you an idea. You're not too concerned about a lengthy warranty, if you're not intending to have an annual service, so that doesn't come into the picture, other than perhaps recognising that those with manufacturers offering long warranties must be reasonably reliable. Modern boilers are much more sophisticated than the good old simple ones, with sophisticated electronics, which can and does fail. When they fail, it is entire circuit boards that are replaced, they are not repaired. That costs!
