  • Indeed it is. Which is why its a prudent step for the OP to book seperate from the other couple, just in case.
    I agree.

It was a prudent step before covid existed and it’s a prudent step now.

I agree entirely, even before this pandemic we used to get threads all the time about group holidays going wrong, one couple get pregnant and don't want to go, or someone falls out with the group and refuses to pay their remaining share. It's an absolute minefield. We had a group holiday this month, all arranged seperately and we are planning another for later in the year, next time we are planning  on a hotel and all booking seperately choosng our own flights etc but overlapping as much as we can, that allows for some of the group to book for 2 weeks, others for a week and for one couple just a short week as they are younger and still work full time.

We lose any group discounts but it means we can all choose exactly what we want, we don't even all use the same airports.

Or someone losing their job, which sounds quite likely in this case!

  • I got a quote from The Flight Centre which they said the would hold until 22 Jan. I paid on their link on 22Jan. It stated Due by 22Jan. Payment accepted and I booked my seat on the virgin website. Flight Centre ave now come back to me and said the payment due date was 21 January and they want £300 more!  I said I wd of paid on this date if this was the case and why was my payment accepted.  They apologised and accepted it was a mistake on their part. I asked for a recording of the conversation as myself and a witness heard “Saturday” as being the due date. They have sent the tape which is clear and it jumps at the date. This can be sent to you. At the end of the day this is their fault and my payment should not have been accepted if this was the case. They are offering a refund but surely they should honour as it is their mistake.

Really unfortunate but I very much doubt that they will want to suck up a £300 fare difference off their bottom line. There won't be that much in margin on the sale. Easier for them to just apologise and refund the initial fare paid. I can't see you getting what you want on this. At best they might knock £20-£30 off on a new flight booking.

PS - You really should have started your own thread rather than hijack this unrelated one.

I think the worst one we've seen is where a party is now holding £6k in Easyjet vouchers that they don't wish to purchase from the other members and can't be converted back to cash due to negligence on that party's part.

Booking separately is always far safer in such circumstances.
