  • Alexa : Add  xxxxxx to my (shopping) list

Access the list in the Alexa app
  • "Alexa, set timer for 15 minutes" - useful for lateral flow tests
also be aware you can set multiple timers for the more complex recipes etc , and name each one too

I've set her to whisper if I whisper at her. much better when asking the time at 4AM. I thought I'd set a default volume for when she switches on but not sure if I have. Adjusting the volume by saying "Alexa, volume 3" is also easier than asking to turn it up or down.

We're very late to the Alexa party, but we needed to replace our music box so bought a Sonos smart speaker and an extra one. We normally listen to the radio or music downloaded onto an iPod. Any useful insights into what magic tricks Alexa can perform? We're getting to grips with it, although we did chose a day when Alexa wasn't playing for people all over the UK, so when she doesn't respond as we expect we don't know if it's us or her! Any useful phrases us Old Pharts may not have thought of?

We are in the same boat - thinking that Sonos (two Sonos One SL and one Roam) is going to suit us best but can't really see the point of wasting an extra twenty quid each on a (useless?) voice activated one.

    Please justify.  :D

It's mostly fun and a bit convenience. If I'm in the hallway with my shoes on, I can call to my Google mini in the living room with whatever request without having to take my shoes off.

On the other hand, when I'm asking my phone to start navigating, the mini in the living room tries to do it. Also it has piped up during work meetings ☺️

@J_B  Mr M is our household technical consultant, he was a reluctant convert, but happy with the sound quality. He bought one smart speaker (with Alexa) and one thick one (just music/noise in the kitchen)
