We don't yet know whether OP's issue is definitely related to a buyer claiming fraud, but it is certainly possible for this scenario to cause considerable inconvenience if a disgruntled buyer convinces their bank that a transfer was to a fraudster, resulting in the seller's account being frozen, which wasn't a situation arising in the cheque era....emmajones1976 said:
As a general rule, what trouble would you be expecting with the details that are printed at the bottom of every cheque issued in the UK, cheques that were dished out like confetti for decades? Nobody can do anything fraudulent with them, and before someone mentions the Jeremy Clarkson thing, that could have easily been recalled but he chose not to,Molehusband said:
I agree and and found the OPs statement of apparently passing their bank details onto random people walking the streets to be rather worrying. I certainly won't give my bank details to strangers as that seems to be asking for trouble.Peter999_2 said:One thing I have learned over the years is to never let anyone send payments directly to my bank account when selling things. Of course, but I meant in general the practice of dishing bank details out. There is very little anyone can actively do with them.eskbanker said:

For me cheques are historical. I shredded the unused ones and discarded them about 20 years ago.emmajones1976 said:

But who dishes out such details 'in general'? Apart from friends and family, the usual reason for giving such details to a stranger would normally be in return for something (the scenario being discussed in this thread), thereby opening up the potential for disruption if the other party claims that the deal wasn't honoured.emmajones1976 said:Of course, but I meant in general the practice of dishing bank details out. I like cheques - for example wanted to send my niece some money to help her buy her first flat - could easily have added her details and done a FP but who know these days - what if she had succumbed to being a money mule or something - would my account have been frozen along with hers once 'they' found out?
Sent a cheque - much much safer.0 -
As others have stated before wandering off into the realm of fantasy - I believe that RG21M may be a fraud code.
If that is the case it's unlikely that anyone from Barclays will give you any details or easily release funds related to the suspected fraud until they have concluded their investigations. But they should be able to give you access to any standard "legitimate" funds you continue to receive (pay etc).I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Apparently a person who transferred me money used a stolen account which Has been sent bank to the sending bank and access restored. I had to provide screenshots of sale and of post office receipt with tracking number. Sorry forgot to update once I got home from the branch.0

Sounds as if you've been scammed. Account wasn't stolen at all. Just a group of people working in tandem. What was the value of the item?preables said:Apparently a person who transferred me money used a stolen account which Has been sent bank to the sending bank and access restored. I don't think that banks even consider this sort of complaints - unless it was a card payment, not a bank transfer.xlnc99 said:Marchitiello said:I would also check that one of those buyers has not made a claim against you about goods not received by them and thus flagged you as a Fraud ..
