Clearly we don't know the OP's full situation and its easy to jump to conclusion but we are two years into a pandemic and requirements for vacination for travel has been not only predictable but a matter of fact for 6-9 months now, Whilst an event like this focuses the mind it was a realistic risk that a relative overseas could get sick or injured and continuing to choose not to be vacinated and so unable to help in the hour of their need was an active decision3 -
Seems to be a lot of posters on this thread upset that there has been exemptions clearly pointed out in the first few posts.1

Thanks for all the comments everyone, especially the heads up advice.
I managed to fly out to Malaga, and have just returned. The Spanish travel rules forbid the unvaccinated from travelling for tourism/holiday/leisure to Spain, but allows visits for family reasons / family visits.Of course, I may just be talking b****cks!2 -
Thanks for the update @wonka .Glad you were able to go .
What was the process to get exemption ?0 -
It's incorporated into the Spanish Travel Health form that everyone has to fill in https://spth.gob.es/
It's necessary to indicate the reason for travel. Most people would say holiday/tourism, but I selected the "family visit" option.
Once I'd indicated I'm unvaccinated, the next question was whether I had a negative PCR test confirmation, or a Covid recovery certificate. I ticked Covid recovery, and downloaded a letter from NHS from a few months ago showing a positive test.Of course, I may just be talking b****cks!1 -

I'm having a similar problem to you having also not been vaccinated but I'm happy to have a test. I just had a look on the health form and it doesn't appear to have a "reason for travel" question? Am I missing something? maybe there are more fields to complete after you press send?
Also, where you asked to show your certificate of recovery at the airport or only when you completed the online form before travel?
