I feel as if this offer is too good to be true:

I have not contacted Plusnet yet but, after reading on MSE email about unlimited broadband offer (expires 02 February 2022) from Plusnet for £17.99 per month, but £11.74 per month taking into account the £75 pre paid Mastercard offer, I can't help wondering if this can be 'real.'

I normally receive notification from Plusnet at the beginning of February to remind me to renew my annual telephone line rental.  It was £209.98 paid in February 2021 for line rental one year from April 2021 and includes evening and weekend calls.  My Plusnet    Broadband 24 month package £5.99 per month ends in April this year at the same time as my line rental is due to be renewed.

I receive a monthly discount for 'Referrals' to Plusnet of £3.75 per month so my net Direct Debit to Plusnet every month is very low although I have paid the annual line rental in advance as a single sum.  The full broadband cost would be £9.99 per month, reduced to £5.99 then reduced further when taking my Referral Discounts into account.

Can it be that Plusnet are really offering this special 'deal' amounting to just £11.74 net per month (£17.99 before taking the £75 pre paid Mastercard into account?

The only difference I see from my present arrangement with Plusnet is that evening and weekend calls are not included and the 'package' is for 12 months.

Like everyone at the present time I am trying to be as economical as possible - particularly as energy costs are so high and my weekly shopping and other bills also cost more than before.  I can hardly believe that this MSE Plusnet offer would amount t about  just £141 for a full 12 months line rental and broadband and my present Plusnet package to April 2022 is (taking my Referral Discounts into account) is equal to £236.86 for twelve months (Line rental £209.98  and net Broadband £26.88).  I feel as if it is too generous to be correct.

If it is an offer I am eligible for (as I usually renew at the beginning of February ahead of April and effective from April) I would think it was amazing.  Also, if no special offer like this from Plusnet, I am sure my line rental renewal and broadband renewal amounts in April will increase and amount to even more than the present costs.

I apologize if this post is a bit long winded.  Can anyone give an opinion - before I contact Plusnet to ask, please?  I wonder if this special offer is only for people who are not already long standing Plusnet customers.

One thing to note ,is that Plusnet no longer offer annual line rental. You were one of the last to get it.
Personally ,I very much doubt if they will make you a renewal offer as good as the deal inc. the £75 Mastercard but you might be able to achieve the £17.99 pm if you play hardball!
I upgraded from standard ADSL to FTTC broadband at the last renewal and managed to get them down to £22.50 with weekend and evening calls thrown in but then had an increase after July of 4.6% (RPI + )!!

Thanks brewerdave.  That's  good to know and keep in mind.  I have been with Plusnet for quite a number of years and have always valued their good customer service/technical support.

Although I'm not good at 'negotiating ' this time, like so many others I'll really have to try.  I am in the same boat as so many others and the huge jump in expenses, fuel, rent, Council Tax and other essentials, is making it necessary to be even more vigilant  than ever.

I would like to stay with Plusnet but, this time, things are different and I have to budget more realistically than ever before.  Of course I am not alone in this - it is sad but I have even changed my hairdreser and most people are finding it hard going.  On a positive note - grateful to be debt free, vaccinated and, so far, covid free.

Very rarely are the new customer deals with the cashback offers available to existing customers. Usually if you try to process the offer you will get told it does not apply once you are logged into your plusnet account.

Although isn't there some recent ruling to mean that the two prices - new customers and renewing customers - must be largely the same? I must admit I took it to mean that both would now have to pay the higher price, but then I'm cynical.

I believe that ruling only applies to house and car insurance

  • Thanks very much for your replies.  I'll see what Plusnet offer for renewal and compare with other providers and hope I can stay with Plusnet when my present contract ends in April.

I'll keep checking on the Forum as it's  so good and helpful for up to date information and is always appreciated.

Plusnet will usually match a deal you find somewhere else.
But you must check that a) it gets applied, b) it sticks, and c) it's actually what the deal was.

The billing system is to be frank crap and tends to forget about discounts/deals/offers especially when applied by phone, so you may have to keep chasing it.

Also check your online renewal offer - these tend to stick billing wise.

Thanks very much Neil_Jones.  If Plusnet can offer a favourable package I'll be glad to stay with them.

I apologize  if this is a stupid question:  How can I accept what Plusnet might offer me other than by telephone?  I would be eager to ensure that any fixed contract/package would be honoured.  Although it is a while ago now, I did have a struggle with inaccurate Plusnet bills in the past.

Do you happen to know where, on my Plusnet Account/Member Centre,  I can find a renewal offer - what would any offer come under, please?  I logged in but could not see anything, thanks.

When I did my renewal, I got plusnet to match now broadband.

You have to do it by phone.

Thanks for replying marlot.  My present contract does not finish until April although, if Plusnet would agree, I would definitely be glad to accept a favourable 'offer' as I would like to stay with Plusnet.

Sadly, in the current financial 'climate' it is more important than ever to save on expenses where ever possible.  I'll look at MSE comparision link and now broadband and see if it would be an option for me to consider. Then Plusnet before making a decision.  Thank you again.
