As the other posters have said, I suspect it's a mistake, rather than Tesco policy to "steal" extra pennies from their customers.

Do you never make them, OP?

Go on. Tell us how much they [strike]overcharged [/strike] stole from you.

Sympathy and support are something I'd give to people who are deprived in some way. The op had a refund, they have not been deprived at all. Why does someones whos not been deprived need sympathy/support?

I think it was really just an excuse to have a condescending moan at a company just for the hell of it.

We're all here to moan - it's the vent board. We're not, however, here to wind each other up are we?
  • I had this problem with Asda, sometimes their systems make duplicate transactions, I'm not saying this is the case, there is a reason for it, something to do with making sure the transaction goes through, in my instance it was recognised and refunded to my account/card but took around a week. It's a stupid thing to happen in this day and age and in fairness to the OP the cashier should have been on the ball enough to void the extra transaction or call a supervisor. Happy Christmas everyone

  • I work on the checkouts in a supermarket. Sometimes an item can scan on twice and only beep once so the operator doesn't necessarily notice it.

It was a simple mistake. Try not to get so irrate about it

And how many times have you used/worked on a till to confirm this should be noticed? As the post above says tills can record an item twice and only bleep once, how would somebody know that?
  • It was for an item costing £4.99!! And I couldn't just pop back to the store as it is a 28 mile round trip and I work on Mondays and Tuesdays (in the NHS as a nurse) and have children to look after, I'm a single mum. The journey to Tesco is a nightmare as I have to cross junction 14 of the M1 and aswell as being 28 miles it would take in excess of an hours driving time. I'm angry because i noticed that earlier on in my receipt she had scanned some creme fraiche through twice but had noticed and had voided one. It was 4pm closing time, my 2 little ones were running riot so I didn't have time to look at the till while I was frantically trying to put things in bags.
Thanks to everyone who is supportive of my comments and my upset. And to everyone who has been horrible, well, I feel upset by your comments. I have been deprived - I had to ring and was kept on hold, never got to speak to anyone, but still charged for the call, I wrote and had to pay for a stamp, and my time doing this. This is the 3rd time in as many weeks that I've been overcharged by tesco's but I've just let it go. For £4.99 I wasn't going to let it go - would you?

What's that got to with anything? In my opinion it is good customer service to pay attention to what's going on, and most tills do beep each time an item goes through. Also OP states she was given a receipt for the item she was charged extra for so the cashier issued the receipt without checking.
