Tesco's charged me twice!!

Options
When I checked my receipt they have charged me twice for the same item - they wouldn't let me back in the store as it was 4pm (sunday) so i tried ringing for 2 whole days - no answer. So I wrote enclosing the receipt - 10 days later they have replied enclosing my refund (the overcharge) as a gesture of 'goodwill' ???????????? What? How can them stealing off me and then refunding me, be goodwill? I'm fuming

I can't believe you sat on the phone for 2 days, it was surely a mistake and they have rectified it, which I'm sure they would have done had you waited until the store was open too.

But as setmefree said, if you aren't happy then don't shop there, I'm not a huge fan of tesco so shop there as little as possible.

They have referred to it as a gesture of goodwill so as not to accept liability. It is just a standard legal phrase. You got your money back ... I don't see the problem?!
    Gone ... or have I?

I think she's annoyed because a) it shouldn't have happened in the first place and b) it took 2 days for her to get her money back. I'm glad you persisted and got your money back.:money:

Mistakes happen! The only reason is took two days is because the OP decided to ring rather than just going in.

The OP says that Tesco stole from her. Rubbish. People really need to get things into perspective.
    Gone ... or have I?
  • I find it absolutely disgusting and there is no excuse whatsoever for a checkout person to either make a simple mistake of scanning the same item twice, or two items being scanned once. The OP is quite rightly horrified and I would imagine will not ever be able to shop again with this horrendous experience always in their mind.

Let this be a lesson to all, that mistakes are made ? my goodness, there for the grace of whatever go I.

Tesco really should have sent a private limousin in order to take the OP and entire family by personal jet off to their own private island to recover, possibly Cuba?

I dont think the OP realises why tesco have replied as such ? What is it that would stop the OP buying two of the same item and then claiming they had only bought one and asking for a refund? what would the till reciept show, would it be one item scanned and then another ? OP says they only bought one item but Tesco shows two scanned? Tesco refund even though they dont need to as there is no proof the op is right, so they call it a gesture of goodwill, ahhh arent they nice :D

It took 2 days because the op didn't go back to the store. As to say it shouldn't have happend in the first place well you can say that about any mistake. Do you never make mistakes?, does your own computer always behave as you expect? because thats exactly what a till is..........NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So what help is saying something shouldn't have happend in the first place to anyone????????

"It shouldn't have happend in the first place" must rank very highly in the list of most pointless/no help to anyone things to say!!!!!

It's like that Harry Enfield charactor from ages ago "now I don't believe you wanted to do that"
  • I'd love to know how much it was for as well?!

A bank robber would had worn a mask and used some force, that in my opinion is stealing, oops sorry theft. They, Tesco, made a mistake.

They have refunded what you have lost. In fact, I am sure that if you were curtious and gone to the store the following day and explained, the refund would had been quicker.

Perhaps a bottle of Scotch would help
