First Direct £130 switch offer.

I noticed that nowhere does it state that it requires two direct debits like most other switch offers.
So if I was able to open an account, switch an old current account and pay in £1000 then I would quality for the switching bonus.

  • From their website, the only terms I can see are as below:

    https://www1.firstdirect.com/banking/switching-bank-accounts/

    *£130 to say hello

To get the £130 cash offer you need to open a 1st Account, switch your everyday banking to us using the Current Account Switch Service and pay in at least £1,000 within three months of opening the account.

This offer is limited to one payment per customer or joint account, and you'll get the money within 28 days of all the criteria being met. Sorry, we can only offer this to people who haven’t previously held an account with us, and/or has not opened a HSBC current account on or after 1 January 2019. You may hold a HSBC account and still qualify for the offer, as long as the current account was opened before 1 January 2019. We reserve the right to refuse your application and withdraw this offer at anytime. Credit is subject to status and an assessment of your financial circumstances.

If the offer terms don't state you need DDs, then they aren't required. The only requirement I see if to transfer £1000 within the first 3 months. Biggest hurdle will be getting accepted for the account in the first place, as HSBC/FD are known to be picky when it comes to new customers.

    That webpage really annoys me.

The asterisk character means "This word/phrase has special conditions, and if you look elsewhere on this page you will find another asterisk which explains in more detail, generally in tiny print". Only there isn't another one.
  • Completed a switch recently though was doubtful I would get the bonus having been a First Direct customer many (15?) years ago and previously received a welcome and farewell bonus.

Switch completed and £1000 paid in by me on the same day, £130 switch bonus received 5 days later which was less than two weeks from opening the account.

I applied for an account via their app yesterday, was told at the end that the application was successful.
Just have to wait now for the card and account details, then start the switch process.

The switch cash offer has disappeared from their website today, was there at the weekend.
I had received the debit card last Monday and the telephone password the next day and initiated the switch process on Wednesday, the 26th. All less than one week of completing the application, very quick and also professional on the phone as well.

Hopefully I will still be in line for the switch offer as it was started before the offer now seemingly withdrawn.

Since an account application was a pre-condition of receiving the bonus you should be absolutely fine.

Appears to have been taken down in favour of their new, improved offer of £150 just out!

    Still got that sodding asterisk

but no asterisk at the bottom or the follow up "notes" page that explains what the asterisk signifies. I think someone at FD has no idea what this symbol means*

    *It means this.

"Sorry, we can only offer this to people who haven’t previously held an account with us, and/or has not opened a HSBC current account on or after 1 January 2019"  is doing my head in! 🤣

Do you mean the causal illiteracy, RN61? I mean the have/has, not the debatably dubious "a HSBC..."
