  • I don't have a debit card registered on the TGTG app, if I attempt to buy a bag will it reserve it for me while I pay or could someone else "steal" it out of my basket.  I can't see a way to add a card in advance.

You need to add a card and pay for it before hand.
I think Ms_Chocaholic knew that but can't see how to do it and is asking how to add the card.

Yes I'm aware of that, thanks, but I can't add my debit card to my account until I purchase a bag so if I add a bag to my basket and then add my card, in the meantime could someone else buy the bag before I add my card details if their card details are already on the app.
You can only add a card after you've actually made a purchase so it's a bit of a moot point as you'd have the problem until after your first purchase anyway.

As for the question about could the item be sold before you buy it, the T&C's state that a bag is only reserved once a reservation confirmation has been issued. So even if you think you have paid and reserved a bag, you might not have. It also states that even if you have a reservation confirmation (which you get after you've paid) it can be cancelled. Theoretically, I suppose that a bag could be snatched by another customer but the app would probably tell you that it's no longer available once you try to pay?

Anecdotally, I've not had a bag snatched from under me and I live in a big town with only a few participating shops. I wouldn't worry overly if a bag was snatched either, life is far too short and it's only a bag of fuel at the end of the day.

Do most of us do it for the nourishment or to feed our curiosity? For me its been a relatively inexpensive cheap thrill, and I know how I can distribute the booty should it not be to my taste.

Food for me isn't an inexpensive thrill, it's fuel. But to each his own.
  • I tried the app out last year and was disappointed, both magic bags I tried to buy and reserved ended up being told that they were out of stock (Parsons bakery) so gave up.
A local ish pub always had bags available but I wouldn't eat there so never tried their bags.

But, our local farm shop has just signed up so going to give it a go. They do fab food but its expensive, half the house is healthier and half less so, either way I think they'll be good value IF I can get my hands on one

I like the element of surprise much more than I enjoy eating and end up eating sugary treats with my tea and coffee instead of meals. Getting these bags encourages me to try different things (as long as its vegetarian) and by and large I feel healthier for it.

I tried it to see what might be available and because my aim for the year was to be more mindful of waste. It was a bit exciting to see what I got - kind of like making a bet. I bet £3.09 in Morrisons and I 'won'.

I wasnt too impressed, I waited half an hour with three others waiting for the bags to be brought out.  This was a large morrisons, I got fennel, strawberries, 2 potatoes, gluten free bread, rolls outdated yesterday, some marmite cheese, 2 minced beef pies and a pack of jam donuts. A bit random, will try elsewhere.
