Virgin media, about to run out of contract

My broadband only contract is up next month. The price will go up from £24 to £44 which is absurd. Even more so considering they are still offering the £24 contract to "new customers only" according to price comparison websites. I thought this practice got banned, or was it just banned for insurance companies?
What would happen if I purchased one of those deals on the price comparison websites?
I really hate phoning companies. Webchat is mentioned on VMs website but I cannot find the specific link to it. Can someone post the direct link to VMs webchat? Their website just sends you round in circles.
Is there a way I can sort this out online? I have less than zero patience for all that phone call shenanigans.

By which I mean paying for another 18 month contract with Virgin Media via a comparison website from the date my current contract expires.DingDongitsKingKong said:What would happen if I purchased one of those deals on the price comparison websites?

The system will know you're not a new customer when you try to sign up online.https://www.virginmedia.com/help/live-chat - but webchat probably won't have the authority to sort new deals out, that's what the phone line retention department is for. If you want to leave you'll have to speak to them anyway.0

We were probably on the same deal as you, our contract finishes at the end of the month so we rang VM to cancel (due to appalling service) and they offered to keep us in the same deal for another 18 months. We said no because we don't want to continue with their unreliable service but you could probably haggle them down a bit more if you speak to them. When we rang them, the call took just a couple of minutes, quicker than trying to find the chat facility and type it all out. We're now being bombarded with emails asking what they can do to make us stay . . .DingDongitsKingKong said:My broadband only contract is up next month. Could you explain step by step how I initiate the messanger on that web page. Nothing there works for me. The links with catagories just take me back to the other generic help pages.Neil_Jones said:The system will know you're not a new customer when you try to sign up online.- but webchat probably won't have the authority to sort new deals out, that's what the phone line retention department is for. Why not just ring 150 from your Virgin landline when you're next at home?DingDongitsKingKong said:

The 0345 454 1111 is the correct number to call. You will need your account number, area code and account password. What speed is your current VM Broadband, that seems like a big price rise going from £24.00 to £44.00. My contract ends in 2 weeks time and I am on the 100mps service and they are trying to increase my price by £10.00 a month.DingDongitsKingKong said:

If you can, change supplier, I dropped Virgin 5 years ago, had to have a new socket and line for Openreach - best thing I ever did - I can change to another supplier easier when my new customer price has ended - signing up my 4th supplier next month.
I remember they wanted to keep by increasing the speed for same cost - I just wanted it cheaper, faster meant nothing for me.0
