A new aspect on Panasonic to LG.

My friend had a Panasonic. We popped into JL for coffee/cake. Came out with a LG OLED TV.

Bad decision. The screen may be great, the customer interface is awful,

JL CS has been contracted out in the past.

    JL Was so good, now???
Your post is quite confusing as I'm not sure if you're saying the customer service at JL is awful or the OS for the TV is awful. However webOS (which runs on LG) is often considered one of, if not the best TV OS on the market. However I do appreciate this is quite subjective.

Take the What HiFi review for example that explicitly mentions the OS as a plus point:

    https://www.whathifi.com/reviews/lg-oled65cx
    Both.

EG.  LG .TV Guide,     Filter,      Movies,  gives you channels 300 - 306 only.  BBC/ITV ?

Not now important , as we stream movies.

    AFAIC Spec includes manufacturer.  :)

I've already responded to Bineos post (which I still claim as confusing) but I've posted a review which states how good the OS is.

To be honest these sound more like faults with the TV than something that affects everyone. There are however two issues with the CX's OS that I can see:

    1) The TV guide isn't great. It can be sluggish and has other issues that binao mentioned.
    2) There are some key apps missing, I believe due to licensing issues.

Is there a reason you keep ignoring my questions? We can't really offer anything if we don't have all the information. Potentially JL could be bending the rules of their guarantee but I can't really say for sure until the questions are answered.

Thanks so much for the time you've spent replying, I do appreciate it!

I feel like I've covered the points you raise in previous comments; not trying to be rude :)

The way I (and possibly JL too) am looking at it is this. You purchased an outgoing model in the Panasonic OLED range back in the day, for what I imagine was quite a good deal in the sales. John Lewis have not been able to offer you another similar outgoing Panasonic model because they're not available but they have instead offered you the equivalent outgoing LG CX model, which meets and probably supersedes your Panny in specification. In my opinion this meets their obligations as laid out in the guarantee.

I can definitely see your point of view. Only there are Panasonic models that are outgoing; admittedly without the soundbar, but the LG doesn't have that either.

My opinion is the replacement was chosen purely on a cost basis, and that the specification of the TV has been an afterthought.

I also feel that the terms of the guarantee need to be lot clearer; regardless of the fact that this might make the guarantee look less attractive to potentially buyers.

    @Gavin83

I'm  sorry you found my 3.57 post confusing.

I wrote "Screen and interface" within the same sentence, referring to the TV.

    Good luck OP

This is my last post on this thread.

I'll ignore the first question as I can see how that's been answered. However having looked back through the thread I can't find anywhere you've stated what you originally paid for the Panasonic TV or what models Panasonic have suggested as potential replacements. Could you please answer these?

I do agree with you on one point, cost shouldn't come into it. No where (from what you've posted) does the JL guarantee mention a limited cost.

It could be argued that the above two points are at odds with each other

Apparently the closest match to the FZ952 would be the JZ980 or JZ1000.

The top of the range (which the FZ952 was the year before I bought it) would currently be the JZ2000. I obviously wouldn't be expecting that.

I wasn’t asking the original cost to compare it to the cost of the replacement. I was asking so I could work out if my understanding of the JL guarantee and their cash offer was correct. You stated they offered you £200 less than you originally paid but without knowing what you originally paid I can’t tell where they’ve got that figure from or if they’re breaking the terms of the guarantee. I was actually trying to help you out here!

Thanks for the model numbers. I agree the closest match in the Panasonic range would be the JZ980, although I don’t think JL stock it. They do however stock the JZ1000.

I stand by my statement, from what I’ve seen cost shouldn’t come into it. However the contentious point is whether the LG CX meets the criteria for an equal specification. Personally I think it does and JL clearly does. You could push for the JZ1000 and see if they fold but if they don’t you need to think carefully about your next step. If you took them to court I really don’t fancy your chances.

For the record in your position I’d take the money and put in the extra to buy the Panasonic JZ1500. However if I didn’t want to pay the extra I really don’t think I’d notice any real difference between the CX and JZ1000 so I’d just take the CX. They’re both great TVs.

You’ve tried hard to talk yourself out of the LG but I think if you got it and gave it a chance you’d be happy with it.
