Karmacat said:Yikes. I'm also concerned about the miso paste and misreporting of background radiation? Do you have anything you could share about sources, Alchemilla?

No superpowers from Miso but it probably won't hurt!4 -
badmemory said:I wouldn't worry too much about background radiation, it can't be as bad as it was when Chernobyl actually happened. Well unless the russians are terminal stupid & refuse to turn the power back on. Back over 40 years ago when it first happened there was a block on shipping sheep & cattle from Wales & surroundings & Scotland. Every night the back roads in the Forest of Dean used to vibrate with the number of lorries carting sheep to Birmingham. I don't remember one being caught. So if you ate lamb then & you are okay no worries now as unless Putin is really stupid!!
I didn't eat meat then, and I'm worried about long-term effects on my kids rather than on us middle aged folk.
With apologies to anyone born in '86, I taught the year group born then in Bristol. They were a distinctly special cohort. Whether is was correlation or causation who can say?5 -

Haven't read anything about radiation... off to check that out...4 -

Sorry DD2 is struggling. I often wonder how different our lives would have been if my little family had all been diagnosed early (never mind the extended family pointing fingers and living in denial). I do sometimes think though I would have just swapped problems. Hopefully things will pick up for her. It's a difficult time for all of you and it sounds like you've had various health scares between you all with all the change and uncertainty that represents. Not surprising if things are difficult. The surprise party was probably also exhausting for someone with ASD... and she may just need recuperation time. Sorry if I'm preaching to the choir...4 -
I am sure diagnosis helps in the outside world, but not really sure it helps to actually KNOW in our family world. After all we know anyway. I've always known I was different/odd. Beiing female we are better at covering up. Having an IQ of 150+ (that was the highest they went back then) AND being thought backward was an interesting mix. We are talking over 60 years ago here. As an adult, a friend of my fathers much younger 4 children were all diagnosed including their one daughter. I noticed my father doing some heavy thinking afterwards & some of his comments towards me changed. Not my mother's but you can't expect miracles..

@badmemory it sounds like you have a lot of family stuff to unpack. I probably do too. Sending love xxx
Just ate a HUUUGE Frog named UberProcrastination and did a meter reading and looked at energy costs since our fixed tariff is about to expire.
Apparently a fix will cost us £600 a month (from £175).
I think not, baby puppy!
Feeling even more skint than yesterday. Is this my LBM? I need to get selling. First to put a second coat on the kitchen wall though.5 -
@Alchemilla - maybe it's time for a LBM? I thought I was LBM proof these days, but had a fairly major one last year!
We also loved Maid (and you have terrified me re. radiation)Think I'll make some "proper" miso soup for lunch (got seaweed, katsuobushi and everything)
