That made me chuckle.  Sounds like an article in the Daily Snail to me  :D.  I also instantly went to the coal type of coke - and it made me think of my dad who I remember talking about getting it when I was a child.  We also had a coal 'hole' in the family home, for the coal man to deliver straight through to the room in the basement below.  Very grateful for gas central heating these days.

My honeysuckle looked very dry in many places this year.  I found a long piece growing on the ground behind the hydrangea the other day though, so I think maybe the hot dry summer was just too much for it.  Pruning roses etc. I think is fine anytime.  I always hesitate because I think I might ruin the plant, but everything always seems to grow back.  There are two plants I don't do this with - one is the acer and the other is the willow as I believe they prefer to be dormant when cut into and can possibly lose sap otherwise.

Glad you came to an agreement re. the slabs.  My DH is very slab happy, but he is now seeing the benefits of a slightly messy cottagey garden as it comes into its own looking really pretty.

You can search your holder numbers on the 1st online - if you are a high value winner (£5k+)  it will tell you - otherwise the app at 00.01 on the 2nd . Never heard about an alphabetical release.

    DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff.    Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

I once won £750 but it was on several different ones.  Then £500 the month after.  But I am averaging what a normal bank's fixed would be & with no tax to pay.  One thing I have noticed is that the month I say I could really do with winning £500 this month then I am lucky if I win £50.

I have won £500 on one bond, the most I have won in a single draw was £900 I think.
I got very excited when it said i had won 6 times, but they were 4x25 and 2 x 50. Just for that couple of seconds, I was Shroedinger's millionaire. 🍾
I do win a couple of times nearly every month though.

I see your cosy crime novel is coming on well 😂

I have quite a lot of PBs (not the full allowance) and never seem to win anything substantial. Which is a pity, as my plans for early retirement rely on a reasonable win...
