I sometimes used to buy CD's from various charity shops, just stuff I liked. In amongst a few that I decided to check, I found a copy of the very first "Now That is What I Call Music"! I didn't realise it was released on CD so I looked it up. There were only 500 made worldwide and it was worth over £300. I sold it on ebay for £340. That was a great find.0

My friend found a photo frame in a CS and when she was putting her photo into the frame, found a photo of a couple taken in the 60s. Had their names on the back. She put up the photo and back on it on Facebook "does anyone recognise this couple?" A few days later, someone contacted her - it was a nephew who lives 300 miles away. When his aunt's home was being cleared out by her goddaughter, she bagged most of the stuff which was OK for charity, she didn't have time to go through photo frames, books, coat pockets etc.

I purchased a box of sewing machine attachments and when I looked behind a cardboard backing I found 5 £10 notes. I returned them to the shop to see if they knew who had donated it but as they didn't I donated the money to them.

Before donating some of my late Aunt's clothes to a charity shop we checked all the pockets and found over £400 in various coat pockets and bags.
When my father was moving into a new bungalow, my sister and I spent a lot of time cleaning it and my sister found £2,000 in cash in an envelope behind the toilet! The previous owner had died and his heirs hadn't bothered to do a thorough clean - their loss!0 -
I help in a charity shop and one of my jobs is to sort the books so can I do big PLEA for people not to use their bank/credit cards as bookmarks and then forget about them. I have found several in books, some still in date. I take them into a bank if possible as I haven't a clue who these people are. If I can't do that then I cut them up. Some of the other ladies tell of sorting through a bag of clothes that were so filthy that they decided not to sort them but one brave person put on her rubber gloves and went through it. She found a stash of £400 stuffed in the middle, turns out they were from the shed and the husband kept his money hidden in it thinking his wife would never go in it! He came bursting in asking for the bag back, luckily they knew who had donated it so were happy to give it back.0

I found a £20 note in a handbag bought from the local hospice shop.
I took it back and used gift aid so the shop got an additional donation.1 -
