there were a name badge in the drawer titled ‘Richard Stiff’.

  • A charity shop in Poynton, Cheshire has a lovely crisp wartime ten shilling note on sale in the valuables cabinet. Turns out, someone donated a load of old books, and while the staff were flicking through them, the note fell out.
  • I bought a jacket and found a condom (sealed!) and a cannabis spliff in the pocket, along with a sexual health leaflet.

My eldest found a £20 in a purse she was looking at but hadn't bought. We handed it into the manager who investigated and realised how complicated and time-consuming the procedure for holding it would be for three months. She handed it back to my then 8-year-old, on the grounds that had she bought the purse it would have been discovered at home, and also that the staff had only just brought the purses out and they had all just been checked. Manager reckoned someone wanted my child to have the money and had snuck it into the purse on display!

I haven't found anything in pockets etc., but in the boot of my car I have a pair of old trainers I keep there ( been there for years ) and, you know when you're out in the car and may have not brought your purse/wallet with you ?  and you just may need a little cash for something ?  Well, theres a £20 note folded over and over, and tucked right into the toe of one trainer.. It's been there, just in case, for years, and I can foresee that somehow, someone will someday find it when the trainers are thrown out/given away, and I've forgotten all about them .

I bought a Nike man bag from my local charity shop for my son who was about 10 at the time.  I popped it into the washing machine with my next load and when it was dry he went to use it - you can imagine my horror when he pulled out an open condom.

Another time I bought a brand new purse for 50p off a car boot and when I was looking inside when I got home I found 50p.
  • I sold a coat at car boot for 50p along with some other jackets When I got home I realised I had left a14 ct brooch with a small diamond on it Someone did well that day

Several years ago when I was a volunteer, another branch of our charity found several thousand £ stuffed in a pair of ladies boots.  They were in a big black bag full of old ladies slippers, shoes, boots so this must have been this poor ladies secret stash.  At our charity shop we were often so inundated with donations that they were left bagged up in the store room and might stay there for months so there is no way of identifying when and who donated them.

I helped in one for a while pricing clothes and found a tenner twice. Put in the tin, obviously. What's weird is that the shop was a cancer research 'superstore' - where all the stock was £1/2/3 etc and mostly items that hadn't sold in other shops at a normal price. So those tenners had managed to not be found by the person who priced it initially, or any shoppers!
Mnoee, please can I ask where this Caner Reseach 'Super store' is please? I've been on the lookout for these kinds of stores and it's very difficult to find them. In our town we have an Air ambulance shop, and initially everything was £1, again picked over stock shipped in from their other branches. They have now doubled the price to £2, but its still possible to find a few gems that have been 'overpriced or overlooked' and get a bargain.

There are a few dotted around- I've been to a couple near-ish to me recently and always found something worth having, the latest being a Topshop silk blouse and £3, Diesel jeans for £2 and two pairs of Next linen trousers, also £2 each.

have you checked it's a 'new' £20 note now? Would be irritating if you needed it and had difficulty using it ...
