DAY 2 TEST

  • Yes you can do it either way. The Chronomics that Emma posted for example is via post. Given the recent rule change I'll now definitely be doing the home kit for my day 2. Its not really slower for LF tests (assuming the company posts it on time) because you take the test yourself so will get an immediate result.

That's just my view and what I will be doing in a couple of weeks when I head back home.

Yepp! Still the tories see fit to line the pockets for their fat cat doners and benefactors. A paid for LTF result can be spoofed just as easily as an NHS test, so the authenticity argument is moot.

so why is it that labour WAG want to keep the far more expensive PCR tests?

"You must book the tests before you travel to England. "

In other words: "We do not trust you to take a lateral flow test when you arrive in england even though these are provided free at the point of use. In addition, the revenue that our associates make from Covid-19 testing should be protected."
Michael, we agree that the legislation isn't fit for purpose but neither of us have been able to come up with a better solution that is secure.

Some of the other post answer part the question I had, so you can't just do a LTF yourself and report the result... Forgive my ignorance not travelled last couple of years..
So you have to book at a pharmacy or somewhere like that to get a LTF done for when you get back and they report the result to the government automatically or do you still have to report it on the NHS app?
A couple of days before you travel back to the UK you have to fill in a government form online called a passenger locator form. Without that form you can't travel home.

Part of that form asks for a test reference number. That number can only be obtained by paying for a test in advance from one of the dozens of "government approved" private testing companies that have sprung up.

i.e. The traveller themselves do the reporting via the passenger locator form.
Great... another question, can you go somewhere and have it done while you wait, or is it better to order something online so I presume a kit to take a swab is posted to you? surely that is slower if you have to swab and post it back?   (its so complicated!!)
I use Collinson, typically buying just before I fill in the PLF (so 48-ish hours).

The last test LFD I had on arrival at Luton before the rule change back to PCR, the result was available online before I'd got to the Mid Stay car park to be picked up.

The traveller does not do the reporting of the test through the PLF, that is filled out up to 3 days before the test is taken.

You can book lateral flow tests from 4am Friday 7 January.

    Why?

Are they not the same as the lateral flow tests already available and used for pre flight departurers to countries that require them be taken?
    Maybe I am missing something.
I have no idea, just quoted what the UK Gov website says.

Have looked at a few of the providers who say the same thing - not available to purchase until 7th - ( e.g Randox, CTM ) , but looks like some other providers are allowing you to purchase the Day 2 L F T already.

The only difference is that they will be allocated a unique booking reference for the Passenger Locator form ( so that they can be traced back to the plane in the case of a positive result from a passenger )

I was on about using them for the lateral flows when the rules change, rather than a PCR day 2 test (which are about to be binned)

More along the lines of... your most likely to be travelling for a holiday or business and therefore you should fund the testing required rather than the tax payer.

We all pay airport fees, fees for visas/visa waivers etc when travelling either directly or as part of airline tickets etc and covid testing is now just another part of the cost of a holiday or business trip.

Chronomics at £19 a piece will suffice, no need to pay any more than that.
No need to pay that much either, Simply Test Me are £12 including First Class Postage.

Do you care about the reviews given that you only need the code for your passenger locator form and dont have to isolate until the results any more?
