As previously advised in reply to your other threads the UK Gov website is the best place to keep up to date with the rules.

    https://www.gov.uk/guidance/travel-to-england-from-another-country-during-coronavirus-covid-19

It has been updated today with the new Day 2 rules which apply to those fully vaccinated arriving in U.K. from 4am Sunday 9th Jan .

Day 2 test is still mandatory but if you are fully vaccinated and  you are arriving after 4am on 9th you can chose lateral flow test instead of a PCR test. Also applies  to under 18s.

You must book the tests before you travel to England.

You can book lateral flow tests from 4am Friday 7 January.

You cannot use a lateral flow test until after 4am, Sunday 9 January. Before 4am Sunday 9 January, you must use a PCR test after arrival.

The rules haven’t changed for unvaccinated travellers.

Other key change is not having to self isolate for the test result if you are fully vaccinated etc

    Why?

Are they not the same as the lateral flow tests already available and used for pre flight departurers to countries that require them be taken?
    Maybe I am missing something.
  • "You must book the tests before you travel to England. "

In other words: "We do not trust you to take a lateral flow test when you arrive in england even though these are provided free at the point of use. In addition, the revenue that our associates make from Covid-19 testing should be protected."

Yepp! Still the tories see fit to line the pockets for their fat cat doners and benefactors. A paid for LTF result can be spoofed just as easily as an NHS test, so the authenticity argument is moot.

  • Some of the other post answer part the question I had, so you can't just do a LTF yourself and report the result... Forgive my ignorance not travelled last couple of years..
So you have to book at a pharmacy or somewhere like that to get a LTF done for when you get back and they report the result to the government automatically or do you still have to report it on the NHS app?

A couple of days before you travel back to the UK you have to fill in a government form online called a passenger locator form. Without that form you can't travel home.

Part of that form asks for a test reference number. That number can only be obtained by paying for a test in advance from one of the dozens of "government approved" private testing companies that have sprung up.

i.e. The traveller themselves do the reporting via the passenger locator form.
  • Chronomics at £19 a piece will suffice, no need to pay any more than that.

Great... another question, can you go somewhere and have it done while you wait, or is it better to order something online so I presume a kit to take a swab is posted to you? surely that is slower if you have to swab and post it back?   (its so complicated!!)
