Sour milk : make soda bread or soda farls.

Soda bread : 500mls soured milk, 1 teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda. 600 g of flour. (Either self raising, plain or mixed)

Mix it all together, form it into a stickyish dough, add a little flour to the outside and form into a round.  Cut a cross into the top across the whole loaf.

Bake for 10 mins at 200 and about 20 mins at 180.

Buttermilk does make a better taste in my opinion but sour milk was what my late mother in law used.

You can add in black treacle, into the milk (less milk) or dried fruit is also really nice.

Soda farls are much the same recipe, but instead of baking they get griddle on the hob.

Milk on the turn makes very good scones.

Thanks for those ideas. Any idea if you can taste or smell the sour milk in the bead or scones?

    No smell or taste.

The plain one goes brilliant with soup.

I use buttermilk in my scones and they are very light. A definite difference to ordinary milk, I would presume sour milk would do the same.
I haven't got a photo of mine, but they look similar to the ones below.
Soda farls : just half the soda bread recipe, form a flat round, cut into quarters and a slow griddle in a non stick pan. 8 mins approx each side.  Split open and butter.   Reheat in the toaster.
