More tinned toms bought but we were on foot and running low on carrying capacity so not all stocks replenished. The shops were busy with it being Saturday and December, and probably the recent wet weather has made people put off shopping.
The salmon has been eaten, as have a few home-grown tomatoes which had been gathering dust ripening in a bowl and were delicious. So the fridge and freezer are nearly as full as yesterday, and we've bought more fruit, though that's already being eaten. The real difference is that I've finished off some ground coffee that's been sitting around for ages but still managed to taste good. The other side of that little triumph is the enormous amount of coffee that people have bought me and through which I've never managed to drink my way. I gave some away last year but there's still a cupboard full. Next in line is Christmas Coffee given me by my younger son last year or the year before and still only half way through. I know in theory this should be in the fridge but it's been in a tin in the cupboard and still smells all right.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

We finished up some snacks (samosas & jalapeno poppers) from the freezer last night for tea and today we'll be using up leftover veg tagine with some garlic bread that needs using and cabbage as I've got the most enormous cabbage so I think we're going to have to have cabbage with everything this week!
Well done for making a dent in the coffee mountain @Cherryfudge, keep going!5 -
Used up lots of tomatoes from the freezer, along with a pack of smoked lardons to make soup - and very tasty it was.
There's some left for my lunch tomorrow, too 😋 Also removed a large pack of diced beef to make stew - but we're not going to eat that today, probably tomorrow instead.
Then DH went shopping and bought 4 twin packs of YS corn fed chicken breasts... so no space gained ! 🤣I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £205 -
The Christmas coffee has been opened! There's only a part pack left so that may be finished this week.
Liver and bacon for dinner today, which we enjoyed a lot, and I've got blueberries out of the freezer to defrost for breakfasts, as well as melon sorbet for a snack later.
The easy wins are reduced now so progress is probably going to slow down.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

I'm still drinking the Christmas coffee, and have started to go through my coffee-cupboard-of-doom in the hope of actually getting to another coffee one day.
I've just finished up some bacon, but in the fridge there is pesto pasta left over from yesterday, along with lots of bits to use up, including a fresh pineapple, long life milk, stock and some juice that no one really liked.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

That sounds like a gaping hole, not just space, @Wraithlady! Good going.

I am here to admit I could do with a barn, (as in the thread title) and am making do with a shed now that the Christmas cheap veg are in the shops. I reckon it's nearly as cold as a fridge out there. So far, oddly, I haven't been able to get the L1dl 5p carrots, but I have potatoes, parsnips, a swede, sprouts and shallots from the 5p veg, added to a savoy cabbage, celery and leeks that we already had.
We have just finished up a chicken (one portion left in curry for DH) but I got another, a medium one marked down to £2.12 on Thursday so that's now roasted and taking up fridge space. I think I'll carve and freeze it for various meals in January as well as some for Christmas dinner. We decided against turkey so it will be gammon and all the trimmings on Christmas Day, and no struggling to fit more in the freezer! After all, we never buy turkey at any other time and I don't eat beef, so this is a good compromise though perhaps a bit salty as one of our basics with Christmas dinner is chipolata sausages (already in the freezer).
I had a voucher for 15% off frozen berries so there's a large bag of those taking up what used to be freezer space, but the packs we already had were getting small. There are also a few bags of shredded citrus peel taking up space. On a less busy week I intend to turn those into Miser's Marmalade.
Too much food is a nice problem to have and I'm glad of the shed space to store veg! At work yesterday, two sets of offices had had Christmas food and one kindly left a tray of sandwiches with a message to help ourselves. Another had just shoved all their spare food in the recycling bin which annoyed me. They weren't obliged to pass it on to us of course, but why didn't they take some home for the family or at least put it in the actual bin, not on top of recyclables where neither product can then be used for anything? Grr.
Grump over... I will get off my soap box and go and buy posh biscuits that need to be handed over tomorrow.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Just a shout out to @carinjo who started this thread - thank you, it's one of my favourites! May your barn be full enough to feed you but still have space to get between the stocks you have in there!
Today dinner was one of the oddest: we had chip shop chips but while DH had curry with his, I had roasted kale and hummus. It's odd what some people will do in the interests of fridge space.
