Used the last of the lamb on the bone to make some sort of lamb soup/stew with lentils and whatever was lurking at the bottom of the veg drawer. That was the last of the red lentils too.6

Sorry, I can't catch up on the pages I have missed. Hope everyone is making great progress.
This is just a post of shame. I am right now packing excess dried food (e.g. pasta) and some tins and things and taking them to my new house. All the cooking stuff has gone there already, so it's too late to finish it all here. Shame on me5 -
Turn the statement round, @RHemmings - it's a starter pack so you don't have to carry too many full packets from the shops to your new house.
How provident of you!
I hope you're settling in okay. I've seen a few posts where you are sounding very industrious!
I finished up some cottage cheese today, which isn't very exciting, and we bought fish and chips so that made absolutely no dint in the stores apart from frozen peas to have with them. I did have another cup of my Christmas coffee though - determined to drink it all by December!I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Cherryfudge we definitely are sisters from a different mister
I also think ,turn negatives into positives.
I am working my way through excess stocks, mainly caused partly by my sojourn into hospital for five weeks before Christmas, plus the left over stuff my two DDs can't seem to use up after Christmas. It always comes to me as I never turn anything edible down.
Having made inroads into the batch cooking I did of chicken provencal and curries a couple of weeks ago I will this week make a stack of cottage pies, as I have quite a bit of mince, diced onions, diced carrots and mushrooms in the freezer.
So half will make cottage pies and the rest probably a big lasagne and some chilli beef portions so I will use up as much as I can, and freeze to make more 'ready meals' for me
Helps to clear the top bit of the freezer. Definitely getting some wriggle room in there.
Tinned cupboards slowly going down, and now reduced the UHT milk stash down to three cartons (it was 12)
Today I am making some sausage rolls and some melting moments biscuits for my DGS who are home for the weekend so will make them this morning and take them with me when I go to DDs later this afternoon
.The three lads she has at home this weekend have hollow legs so I know the stuff will vanish pretty quickly. Her forth son will be home on Tuesday from Uni for a few days, so I will have to make some tomorrow for him separately as I doubt there will be a lot left by the time he is home.
Its all work in progress

We usually make muffins every weekend to use up any ends of fruit. Today's are using up out of date tinned rhubarb and a slightly elderly (but ok) egg. We didn't have dairy milk and didn't want to open the oat milk, so I watered down the juice from a tin of mandarins. The mixture tasted fine but without the milk and with so much acid I'm a bit suspicious about the rise, even though I put in a touch of extra bicarb. Used up some of the neverending pearl sugar on top.
Out of freezer yesterday: filled pasta, lentil curry, burgundy beef, peas.
Just ordered £100 of meat for the freezer including lamb for Easter, so we urgently need to eat some more freezer contents before Wednesday!4 -
as anticipated, not the tallest! but I'm informed they taste good

Muffins fresh from the oven always taste good, @Cairnpapple! How do you think I got a reputation for being able to bake?
Now I have double envy - of pearl sugar and a LeCreuset baking tray! I had to look up pearl sugar the first time you mentioned it, for some reason I'd not come across it but I realised how nice it looks on cake.
Today's dinner is going to be gammon as I picked up one at half price, with the last of a bag of potatoes, ditto carrots, and probably peas from the freezer.
We have quite a lot of frozen rhubarb, you've reminded me. I had a nice rhubarb cake recipe to use it in, but where did I put it? I will check the recipe notebook and file. I think it came from Riverford.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Now I'm finding out that many of my pots and pans don't work with the induction hob at my new house. I've just found that my pressure cooker doesn't. That's going to put a dent into getting through stuff until I can replace it.3 -
Oh, what a nuisance - I don't have any easy answers either. To replace the hob or replace the saucepans? Would it be worth getting a small freestanding hob? Cheaper than replacing all the other things, and can be packed away when not in use?
Something along these lines? As far as I can see that's not induction, but some are.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

As per another thread, my kitchen is small. I want to avoid adding things, so even though a separate electric hob would be cheaper, I'm going to go the replacement route. I'm going to put my current pressure cooker in my loft as it's a quality item and it may be useful sometime in the future.3
