Today I've made a big pan of @London_1's veggie chilli, and very nice it is too - though I somehow didn't get it to taste of chilli despite adding more! I could have added some frozen chilli from the freezer I suppose. No worries, it's still very tasty. Mine had some extra veg in the form of a bit of swede that needed to be used, but that wasn't a problem. So that's used up or reduced peppers, sweet potatoes, carrots, swede, garlic, ground ginger etc., and two tins of kidney beans (those went out of date last summer). What's more, there are another five portions for the freezer.

Still laid up in bed with chest infection, so most of the meatloaf gone into the freezer. The leftover mince will be dinner tonight with the rest of the sauce

  • Made some chicken stock last night with one of the chicken carcasses out of the freezer and tonight made it into soup with various bits of veg and had it with tuna melt bagels.
  • Spouse cooked salmon with a pesto crust, which used up a heel of bakery bread from the freezer as breadcrumbs, plus the end of an open jar of pesto.  Nearly finished the bottled lemon juice too, but still a little left. Served with old tagliatelle from the back of the stockpile cupboard.

Are you feeling any better yet, @carinjo?

Today I finished the reconstituted milk powder to make custard and had the last of the bananas in it.

I've replenished the frozen spinach and I need to get garlic and brown rice as well as a new supply of dried milk, some ground ginger and paprika.

I've always wondered, but even more so during the energy price crisis: isn't it too pricy making your own stock, leaving the stovetop on for couple of hours? I would love to do my own, but not sure about financial implications. I've kept the salmon heads and bones from xmas shop, since the broth recipe i got only takes 30/40min.
@Cherryfudge, finally! Back to work tomorrow, the laugh is that i got appointment at gp in the morning for sicknote for days 8-10. Crazy.
Out: 2 halfpacks of white fish fillets, making one of the recipes in 5 ingredients book by J@mie with the last of the allotment leeks for lunch tomorrow, we both home.
