I made spiced bread pudding to use up some stale bread - it meant purchasing more milk but has used up the bread, some eggs and some of the dried mixed fruit left over from Christmas. It's also made a start on the brown sugar from the emergency cupboard.
I turned an opened half tin of chick peas into Coronation Chickpeas and demolished the lot for lunch.
DH made chicken casserole and has some left for tomorrow so now I'm undecided what day to make the veggie chilli. He also finished up a box of stock cubes which is handy as they were ones we didn't particularly like.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Making stock from a chicken carcass again today though I don't yet have a plan for it.
Had gravy and broccoli cheese from the freezer with the chicken. Roasted some sad aubergine and courgette from the fridge. Ate another out of date jelly pot.
Today I'm thinking leftover chicken and leftover roast courgette with a packet of flavoured rice. I do still have the salmon that I'd been intending to have with orange, maybe it needs a new plan (possibly involving the giant tub of out of date curry paste).
Really glad I froze the leek last week because we still haven't got round to making sweet potato and leek mash. I am terrible with things that are out of sight out of mind so I need to keep reminding myself that the sweet potatoes exist. I guess I could ask spouse to chop and freeze those too.
Overall the freezers are getting pretty good! Lots of crap has been dealt with and it's now mostly things we'll use. Cupboards are another matter though!5 -
I've been making a concerted effort to use up self raising flour as I've got loads of it and some is probably past its best. I ended up with too much because a couple of times I got it as a substitute for bread flour and wasn't paying enough attention to return it when the shopping was delivered. Anyway, I've started using it to make naan bread with a recipe from an old student cookbook and it's been a massive hit with the family.
We're away for a week next week so I'm trying to use up anything that could go off while we're away. Today's lunch for me & OH will be leftover gigantes plaki, half a punnet of mushrooms cooked with garlic & butter, some baba ghanoush & pitta bread. A feast! Cheese & crackers for tea.
I've got one leek, an end of a butternut squash and some sweet potatoes that need using so although I fancy chilli after all the talk of chilli on here I'll probably do a curry as I've got half a tin of coconut milk to use. Maybe a Thai one though as I've got some green curry paste. That should do tomorrow nicely.6 -
Today I've made a big pan of @London_1's veggie chilli, and very nice it is too - though I somehow didn't get it to taste of chilli despite adding more! I could have added some frozen chilli from the freezer I suppose. No worries, it's still very tasty. Mine had some extra veg in the form of a bit of swede that needed to be used, but that wasn't a problem. So that's used up or reduced peppers, sweet potatoes, carrots, swede, garlic, ground ginger etc., and two tins of kidney beans (those went out of date last summer). What's more, there are another five portions for the freezer.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Spouse cooked salmon with a pesto crust, which used up a heel of bakery bread from the freezer as breadcrumbs, plus the end of an open jar of pesto. Nearly finished the bottled lemon juice too, but still a little left. Served with old tagliatelle from the back of the stockpile cupboard.4

Are you feeling any better yet, @carinjo?
Today I finished the reconstituted milk powder to make custard and had the last of the bananas in it.
I've replenished the frozen spinach and I need to get garlic and brown rice as well as a new supply of dried milk, some ground ginger and paprika.
