Pea soup finally on the hob, using broccoli stalk, carrot, celery, garlic and homemade chicken stock. And a can of mushrooms from the emergency stock because I have other plans for the fresh mushrooms. And peas!
Last of the roast chicken going into a rice/pesto fake risotto type thing tonight. The chicken made great burritos last night.
Into freezer: a chopped up leek that was starting to look questionable, it should come out later in the week to make sweet potato and leek mash but seemed safest to freeze it in case we don't get round to that.5 -
Last night was a portion of chicken curry from the freezer plus a jacket spud.
Today I've just taken a bit of reduced steak from the freezer for tonight's dinner, plus I have plenty of veg in the freezer to add to it.
Tomorrow will be some chicken thighs, plus veggies from the freezer. Using up as much as possible as I am hoping to move by the summer so using stuff up so I don't have to pack stuff from the cupboards.
I will make a semolina pudding this afternoon and it will do a couple of days for dessert. Good for my purse as well

There was a lovely section on bbc morning live about using your freezer. If you can find the clip on iplayer, lots of good advice. My favourite: if you got the freezer on, no use in it being empty, a waste of energy. At least 75% full is a good target as it gives you room to move things around too. It's good for the soul to walk with your soles on the soil.6

I'm just defrosting chicken for tonight and humous for lunches.
I've no idea how to reduce mine to 75% full. It sneaks things in when I'm not looking. Or possibly I sneak things in when I'm not looking.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
The sun's been out and I think I’m solar powered (Onebrokelady)

Had an all day breakfast tonight to use up a packet of reduced bacon and a couple of slices of black pudding plus some ancient mushrooms, fried eggs and potatoes and beans. I bought a sack of potatoes at the beginning of the month and I think it will probably last until the end of February at least. I always think you can make a meal if you have potatoes and onions plus some oddment from the freezer. I challenged myself to make tea using something from the freezer each night this month and apart from a couple of nights I've been in on my own and treated myself plus some fish I bought because we had none left, I've managed to do it! I can actually see what's in the freezer now but there's still quite a bit to go! I've got quite used to it now so I'm going to see how long I can keep going.

The steak was as tough as shoe leather, I think there are another two in there so I may dig them out and turn them into a casserole via my slow cooker with some veg, if they are still not nice then DDs dogs will finish them off for me.
Semolina pudding was lovely, and enough left for today and tomorrow .I have a pack of gala apples I am going to stew tomorrow and make a crumble with as they are starting to look a bit wrinklyonce stewed in a dollop of honey and a nice crumbly top a decent splodge of custard will be a nice treat for Friday and Saturday. Not wasting anything and a pudding helps to streetch a meal a bit.

That's amazing @oceandreamer! Well done. Shame about the steak @London_1. Good luck with the slow cooker.
Out: whole chicken for tomorrow.
In: 2portions of the veg curry from last night. Enough left for lunch today. It's good for the soul to walk with your soles on the soil.4 -
Just catching up with the thread and imagining having a freezer only 75% full. Things wouldn't fall on top of me when I tried to get something out! That's something to aim for.
We've had visitors for the last 5 days so I've not had a chance to do an inventory of the fridge freezer but that's next on my list to do. We've got loads of leftovers to deal with in the fridge so no chance of tackling anything from the freezer this week but I'll start trying to use a couple of things a week starting next week.
Tonight's dinner will be leftover roast dinner stuff - mushroom wellington, assorted veg, Yorkshire puds and a bit of chicken for the OH. I'm going to try out some pigs in blankets flavoured gravy granules to go with it which I bought cheaply after Xmas.
I'm enjoying reading how everyone else is doing and it's inspiring me to keep plugging away. 😀5
