In: more coffee, lots of crispbreads as they were on offer.
Out: last of the pizza and soup from the past week.

  • Spouse used leftover haggis and broccoli from yesterday in pasta with the end of a tub of cream cheese, some good using up there. We are typically very bad at finishing cream cheese.

I on the other hand had an IBS/ reflux flare so the only cupboard thing I've used up is a tub of out of date jelly from the Stomach Emergency stocks. Going to be on mostly white rice and white toast for a bit till it calms down.

Food spend is definitely down a bit this month so the using up has made a difference! We're not aiming to be particularly frugal with food spends but it's good to avoid waste.

Sorry to hear you've had a flare up, @Cairnpapple. I get reflux but it sounds as though we have opposite triggers - bread is my worst culprit.

I realised today that my freezer is getting out of hand. I didn't have the salmon that I thought I had so I've defrosted sausages and we had toad in the hole tonight, and I'll make the rest into a casserole, half of which can be frozen. DH had some more blackberries, I ate a lonely frozen smoothie ice lolly and now I'm having a lime and raspberry ice pop that could probably win awards for lack of nutritional value, but tastes interesting. The freezer isn't particularly crowded, just packed with small bits of random saved food.

I've made banana bread and thrown in coconut, dates and apricots to reduce the baking ingredients stash.

  • Ooh that banana bread sounds lovely @Cherryfudge! I pulled out the remains of a leg of lamb from the freezer that was left over at Christmas, and made it into a curry with a bag of spinach.  I had to buy the spinach but everything else was from stores.
  • Welcome LotsOfTea!  I share your pain with the lack of labellig.  I always think I'll remember what things are and never do.  The worst surprise I had was a tub of soup that I took for lunch which turned out to be cheese sauce - not very appetising with a sandwich!

Oh I've got a worse one than that oceandreamer! I once defrosted what I thought was cheese sauce and it was custard! Luckily I tasted it before putting it on my macaroni. 😂

    hahaha!

Spouse finally used up the last 2 oranges in orange muffins,  they were a bit saggy and difficult to grate but the mixture tasted good so the muffins should be good when they're ready.
  • Oh dear LotsOfTea - I think we should maybe start labelling!

Welcome @LotsOfTea! I went through a period of not labelling last year, mystery bags aplenty!
Out: 2tins plum tomatoes, frozen carrots, peas, red cabbage. Brown rice, brown lentils. Made stuffed cabbage rolls. Looked amazing and tasted ok, but a real labour of love/pain in the backside to make!
Sis and the kids coming to visit on saturday, planning easy peasy salmon and something, so the fillets will come out tomorrow to defrost.
Think i might make a banana bread too for dessert on saturday, got plenty of frozen bananas and got dried fruit mix in cupboard.
Talking about cupboards, found an open packet of cardamon pods, bought some last week. Think it time for an inventory.
