I've finished the last of the Moroccan-style vegetable stew. Phew. Actually it was nice, once I'd had a break from it. We had the rest of the roast veg with dinner, and various other things are reducing. I've also finished a chocolate orange and between us we've polished off a box of chocolates.

We've restocked on basic tinned things - fruit for DH, chickpeas, jam: that sort of thing. I don't have a big stock of anything but it's still certain things that get eaten and others that hang around for ages.

Last nights dinner was the chicken provencal from the freezer, a portion of the lot I batch cooked a couple of weeks ago and it was really nice .I had it with some rice and for pudding some trifle I made two, one for me, and one to take to my DDs later today.

I dug a leek and potato pasty from the freezer to have for lunch today as I go to DDs for dinner every Sunday.

Freezer getting a bit more wriggle room now . eating from existing stuff is certainly helping keeping the budget low this month plus staying away from the shops I've now had 19/21 NSDs this month and only spent £31.29 in total on food  :) So I'm more than happy with that.

Only ten more days in january to go so I know I will be well under budget for once :):):)

  • Our haggis today was cancelled as friend has a cold which I can't risk getting.  One haggis frozen and the other will get eaten later in the week. We ate up bits and pieces of last night's mezze for lunch. Still have 2 small portions of Persian lamb mince thing in the fridge so may make some hummus to have with that tomorrow as we finished the bought hummus.

    Out: a couple of pittas

In: 8 burgundy beef portions (+ 2 in fridge), 2 portions of extra gravy (deliberately put extra liquid in with the beef as it makes the best gravy), 1 pack bacon, the haggis.
  • Out: 1 portion chilli, 1 portion squash and carrot stew,  a couple of pittas.

Half a tired lemon and some slightly soggy garlic seasoning into homemade hummus. I don't know why I hadn't thought before now to use up the garlic seasoning in things that are getting whizzed up in the chopper, now that it is clogging its grinder. Also finished up the end of the Persian lamb and end of a bag of rocket. Always a victory when salad leaves actually get eaten!

Corned beef hash for us today, so that's one portion out of the freezer. I've also finished the chicken chasseur and half the remaining pizza yesterday. Nothing more bought today.

  • Chilli today, used half a pack of mince and bulked out with rather ancient courgette and chickpeas.  Just realised that I haven't bought anything today either - thats the first day in a long time as I'm quite forgetful so often have to go to the shop just for one vital thing!

Well done everyone for having a no shop day! I still have mushrooms and decaf on my list, but couldn't be bothered to walk to shop on mealbreak.
@Cairnpapple, never heard of persian lamb before. Had a look and saw a recipe using lamb shoulder. I only have pomegrenate syrup and venison shoulder, do you think it could work?

Beef casserole today from freezer, another bit of batch baking used up. Dobbie coffee morning this morning so good chin wagging going on amongst all 7 of us.
I shall look at the Waitrose outlet as its in the store by the cafe, but I doubt I will buy anything Even W'rose reductions are getting less and less worth it.
Plus I have really more than enough stuff in store indoors.

@carinjo the Persian lamb is our household name for Bethany Kehdy's whipped hummus with lamb, I don't know whether I can post links but it's googleable. I use a different hummus recipe that I was given by a friend, my little chopper can't deal with ice cubes! Scaling up the lamb to a full pack of lamb mince made 3 meals for 2 when served with rice, salad, pittas, dips.

I imagine that those sort of flavours with venison would be delicious!
