An unheated bedroom does not mean damp bedding and clothes. There is a huge difference between an unheated house and unheated bedroom. The central heating from the rest of the house gives an ambient temperature to upstairs rooms.

Moved into a mid terrace with central heating only downstairs.

Previous tenants said they didn't notice the lack.

I certainly did and shivered through 2 winters before boiler was condemned and landlord upgraded the whole system including adding in upstairs radiators.

I shivered because parent wouldn't even consider electric heaters in bedrooms due to finding them energy guzzling - 25 years ago... While I know they do indeed guzzle energy I'd bet they are a bit less guzzling now.

I have the heating on in the day as I hate being cold, but no heating upstairs at night. I sleep with the windows fully open so much so the wind howls through and sometimes I have to get up if it's raining a lot to stop the carpet getting wet 🤣.
if I sleep as a guest somewhere with the heating on I feel hung over in the morning.
I choose hotel rooms with as little outside noise as possible so I can open the windows.

But I don't like being cold so in the day the heating is on.  So I guess if you spend daytime in your room you need some sort of heating.
  • I wouldn't want a house with unheated bedrooms, beds and clothes would be cold and damp in winter. I want to be able to change my clothes without getting freezing cold in the process. If there are children in the house they need a warm bedroom to play or study in. If you need to go to bed unwell a freezing bedroom isn't going to help. What about those wild nights of passion ? Much nicer in the warm !!

I would plan on extending the heating system as soon as possible or find a different property with full heating.
Beds and clothes don't get damp from cold rooms upstairs as heat rises. And fresh air is much better for damp.

if you need to go to bed unwell it depends what you have, for things like flu and colds I've always preferred fresh air.

Certainly don't need temperature up for nights of passion 🤣.

It is a personal thing - my mum who is in her eighties still thinks you can get flu from going to bed with your hair damp.
