  • If they have Sky then sim only start at about £4 month. Unlimited calls and texts.
They don't have Sky unfortunately for that deal.
  • RWG rates are 10p a min 10p a text and 5p per mb. Minimum top up is £5. You can buy a top up at any paypoint shop.
You ask for a NOW mobile top up as RWG is owned by NOW mobile
So they get 50 min or 50 texts (or any combination of either up to 50) and then after they exceed that amount per month they go to a rate of 10p min/text?  Doesn't seem that there is any need for a regular payment into the credit balance either.

Looks like it is between this one and the 1pmobile one year sim.  Hmmm....
  • Correct. No requirement to top up at all.

Their handset is a Nokia 1661-2.
Would a handset that old cause problems with providers these days?

I think it's likely to work ok with a current generation SIM, it's not so ancient.
If not, Nokia have a few recent non-smartphone models at modest prices, some 3G/4G capable for calls, perhaps with which the battery of the current phone could be used as a spare.

I know nothing about RWG, but for a low user I wouldn't use 1pmobile as it's basically £2.50 per month you pay (£30 for first sim for a year, then required to top-up by £10 every 4 months, and if you are a low user, you wouldn't use that up, and the money is 'wasted'.

For usage of no more than 30mins per month, why not use Asda Mobile (4p a min), top up your PAYG sim with £5 and it'll last for 4 months (so half the cost of 1pmobile).

I'd be giving RWG a try first though....

Asda Mobile now runs on Vodafone iirc. OP said O2 or EE are only networks with decent signal where they are.

Correct. No requirement to top up at all.

It does appear to have changed recently, and they now require a £5 one-off initial topup.

can still get a free one delivered here

    https://s1.itseeze.com/sites/rwgmobi/rates-plans-eng-per/#simcard

they may ask for the £5 when you try to set it up for the free plan

I thought you could change plan when you wanted so might be able to do the £1 plan then switch to the free one.

  • Its worth having the £5 credit,if you use more than the free bundle, you can still use it. And if you dont use it, the credit never expires,as long as you use the free stuff once every 6 months.
