Rolling Down the Green Hill Towards REtirement ππππ

There's just not enough hours in the school day to get it all done at the mo, kp. I was told the job was peaks and troughs - in reality it's peaks and even bigger peaks with a very occasional slight dip. It is, however, an entirely new role, so their prediction was a guess - and covid hadn't helped - it's still not a normal year, which means I've had more work to do than what would be a normal year as a result.
Anyway, the smalls (not so small at 16 and 12 coming up 13) had their first jab yesterday - they missed it at school due to having covid and then the day before they were going to get it the guidelines changed from 4 - 12 weeks post covid, so they've only been eligible this weekend as you also can't have it (as a child) within 7 days of a flu vaccine) They can apparently have jab 2 after 8 weeks - we will wait a little longer and go for in the Easter hols instead. Poor DS3 is suffering with a bad headache and aching arm today and a slight temperature. DS2 is ok.Β
DD is now fine - but she couldn't eat normal food until Friday. She is still doing salt rinses 3x/ day and the stitches are still in her gums. She went back to work (wfh) on Tues.Β
I have another busy week this week at work - and also should get some test results at the end of the week - it's kind of a 'preparing for bad news but hoping for good' sort of set of results. We shall see - I think the worst thing about any tests is waiting for the results!
We were out on Friday night watching Katherine Ryan in a local theatre- better than I was expecting, tbh - it did mean, however, that we missed Death in paradise (we are so boring!! π) so I'm off to persuade DH to change the channel and catch up in that whilst finishing off the ironing:)ΒI am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 Β£124616 01/11 Β£89873 01/13 Β£52546 01/15 Β£12133 07/15 Β£NILNet sales 2024: Β£209 -
Peaks and plateaus! How long til the February break?Β9

Yep, peaks and bigger peaks seems to sum up working in schools these days
Β
Your poor offspring, between covid, jabs and teeth (you're right, the smalls aren't really so small any more!).Β And good luck with those tests, that's so troubling for you.
As for being boringΒ Βnot in my book
I love Katherine Ryan, and I still like Death in Paradise, its a visual version of the freebie "cosy murder mysteries" that all go for free on Amaz00nΒ

Half term break is in 3 weeks (and 1 day) - whoop! Although I need to get all of the summer exam entries in before then and fully plan 3 weeks of mocks for Y11 and Y13 which start after half term and do some other bits n pieces (couple of maths challenges, interview some invigilators, some data analysis etc etc) - and (the biggie) in half term I have an operation - the test results showed I have breast cancer - lymph looks clear and lump is grade 2 and is hormone receptive (a good thing) - so the plan is a lumpectomy with some lymph nodes to be removed to make sure they are clear (ultrasound shows they look to be clear) followed most likely by radiotherapy and hormone treatment and tablets for 5 years... ho hum. It is what it is and I'm very thankful it was caught early - it was picked up in a routine mammogram that I had just before Xmas and I had absolutely no idea (and it was 22mm when they measured and biopsied it 2 weeks ago) My frozen shoulder pales into significance (although it is the same side, so will be impacted by the treatment)
On a more cheerful note it is pay day tomorrow - good job too, as both DH and I have very little in our accounts! I've ordered a takeaway for tonight (was always the plan, whatever the results) and I think it will wipe my account out bar c Β£5 - squeaky!! I shall buy DH some more PBs tomorrow (only Β£100) and see what I can add to my SIPP and ISA too.ΒI am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 Β£124616 01/11 Β£89873 01/13 Β£52546 01/15 Β£12133 07/15 Β£NILNet sales 2024: Β£208 -

Sorry to hear your news, but great that it's caught so early. NHS are amazing and the treatments are so good and the full recovery rates are so high for breast cancer. Best wishes.Save Β£20,000 in 2025. April 2k, May 3.5k5

greent, I'm so sorry to hear your news. Stage 2 is good and early, that's something, and this half term for the operation isn't far away now, which is good to know.Β Your treatment plan sounds very well thought out and scaled to your needs, which is good to read, but it's bound to be a shock too.Β Keeping on with the detail of looking after the finances is a good idea - though in your shoes, I'd be drifting a bit.Β As I say, helpful to keep on track.
