I found exactly the same issue...gave up eventually. In about a week, I'd got 28 points.

Tried to close my account, but every time, it just kept asking for my password and rejecting it...even though it was the same (Google-saved) password that I'd used to log in with 30 seconds earlier. 

Eventually, I unsubscribed from emails instead.

It's a waste of time unless you have lots of referrals as was a popular theme a few years back.  Apps such as Qmee, Curious Cat and Instagc will earn you far more.

Free Lebara Sim does the job

Is it really free, or does it require topping up with money to actually receive calls/texts?

It's free. Just put the SIM in and it is automatically activated and you can receive texts. I think after 3 monhs without activity or top up the SIM is getting cancelled so you may want to order a new one in time and change the number again. You might be able to transfer but haven't tried that yet.

I once ordered 3 in a row, needed several individual Telegram accounts and used them to activate the accounts. Sim long gone, accounts still working 

It arrived this morning but despite fitting in my phone it isn't recognised at all, probably because it's such an old phone. Well it was worth a try, thanks for the tip any way.

Have you tried switching the phone on and off? Any other phone available you could try? 

The phone was switched off when I put the sim in, it just didn't recognise it just said 'searching' forever. Probably too old, it's an iphone but years old so probably new sims don't work even though it did fit and was the right size. No other phone since we don't really use them, just have an old one in case of emergencies and such.
