I only use the iron for cross stitch pictures, to get them nice before framing 😁
My husband uses it for his shirts occasionally but generally wears a waistcoat so he only has to iron sleeves and round the collar.
Never separate colours in the wash, though we do run a separate wool wash for some clothes that are a bit more delicate.1 -
Didn't think I needed to give Mr S lessons on laundry before I left for 4 months in the Falklands.....Bluebell1000 said:

When I got back, he said that he had sorted the washing into bedding, towels, outerwear and underwear. So far so good, except I had accidentally left a new, very expensive, white bra in the laundry basket. That had gone in with his black underpants and socks.....1 -
Dust If You Must
by Rose Milligan
Dust if you must, but wouldn't it be betterTo paint a picture, or write a letter,Bake a cake, or plant a seed;Ponder the difference between want and need?Dust if you must, but there's not much time,With rivers to swim, and mountains to climb;Music to hear, and books to read;Friends to cherish, and life to lead.Dust if you must, but the world's out thereWith the sun in your eyes, and the wind in your hair;A flutter of snow, a shower of rain,This day will not come around again.Dust if you must, but bear in mind,Old age will come and it's not kind. And when you go (and go you must)You, yourself, will make more dust.20 -

And what about you, don't you separate colours? Why is it left to OH.MovingForwards said:My OH doesn't separate colours before doing the washing, as we don't own enough 'whites' to justify it. Clothes are hung up to dry and creases drop out.
We own an iron, no ironing board and I've not used one for about 30 years, can't say I've ever seen OH use it in all the time we've been together.
We do pair socks up as we have numerous different ones. I guess we could start wearing odd socks 🤔
OH cooks from scratch, no ready meals or microwave in our home. I also grow fruit and veg.
Provided we are happy, why should anyone care what we do.
Have you ever used the ironing board? Why say OH hasn't used it? Have you? I don't even own one.
Don't you cook anything from scratch? Why poor OH?
If you and your OH are happy, that's the main thing. But I still don't know why all the chores seem to be something to do with OH.
Welcome to 2022, there's no 'poor OH' in this home.
Unlike some couples we discuss our personal situation and agree what we will do.
I frequently say in these types of threads that our roles are reversed i.e the woman works and the man keeps house.
If my OH had his way I wouldn't be working, but I'm not ready to give in to my health. I'd sooner remain working as long as I can, than be bedridden for a while due to doing a bit of cleaning or cooking meals.

I don't want to waste my free time ironing bedding/towels or cook meals, work roughly 10 hours. a day, and the last thing I want to do are these.[Deleted User] said:Hi,jings, are you folks clarty or just lazy.I iron my bedding and towels, fold neatly then put in airing cupboard.Must be the younger generation, who live on ready meals rather than make a good pot of soup, or mince an tatties.
I have to find this trick of not ironing clothes, most of my clothes are creased and need too.4 -
OK everyone, please enlighten me as to how to stop ironing. I work so have work trousers, dresses and blouses. I can't seem to get away with 'not/minimal' ironing - so maybe it's my technique that's not up to scratch. I'm ready/willing to learn...........:rotfl:0

My BIL is a funeral undertaker, their jackets never come off in a funeral, my sister only irons the parts on show. The back and sleeves of his shirts are not ironed.scottish_lassy said:OK everyone, please enlighten me as to how to stop ironing. I work so have work trousers, dresses and blouses. Put on coat hangers to dry, buy non-iron clothes. It's the way I've done it for nearly 30 years.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.3 -
I iron cotton stuff. We love crisp sheets on the bed. Why would anyone iron towels? That would flatten the loops.I had a new iron in September. It's very heavy and makes light work of the job. Far better than a lightweight one.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
