@sammy_kaye18 could you get a roll of Velcro to add to the door?

    I’m not sure.
There is about an inch space so the doors don’t quite overlap.
Ive managed to put a broken breeze block to hold the door down today but I think making a sort of patch to help it close will be do-able.

Not sure I have any better ideas other than maybe combining the tarp with the Velcro?

Love how into it your daughter has got, GW although airs on a Friday, is a Sunday night thing on bbcip in our house. This week we will need a bit longer set aside as Beechgrove is also on from Friday too!

For those who are yet to discover BG or are new to it like me, it’s fantastic and more catered to the everyday garden or allotment vs the huge things shown on GW! (Although I love that too)

I would be sewing a velcro strip (reinforced with safety pins at the start and stop points) on to the edge of the zip. You can also use the fabric (zip) edge and velcro strips to pin through, unlike the plastic - it will add its own overlap that way.

My Mum's a big fan of Beechgrove Garden (which is on Sunday mornings here if you watch it when broadcast). I agree, it's about getting your average person's stuff going and also has some good bits on community initiatives that can be copied

I might look into that as well.
My daughter is also a fan of The Walking Dead and DoomsDay Preppers so I have no doubt that if the world starts ending then I'm heading to her. And she's only 11!

I'm just glad she is a much more hands on kid thank sitting in front of a screen. She's a keen reader and apparently gardener now. She's been up since 7am itching to get in the garden and wants to plant more things! I think today we might turn our hand to making a box for the windowsill to put some herbs in.

It's also, in may ways, more useful than Gardener's World to anyone living in the North of England.  Often the weather  and daylight conditions are different - you're also more likely to see recommendations for things that will actually grow, I find.

So glad i did not bin the plastic greenhouse cover now! The one zip gave in and it got damaged last year. Safety pins and velcro sounds both like better options than replacing it!
Hobbled around the allotment this morning, first time in 2 weeks. The weedsuppressing fabric for shallots blew away, but they all still there thanks the the small netting tunnel to protect against birds.
Ms C had to work this weekend, so we will do a bit of work tomorrow.
At home planning to do a bit of seeds and the chinese cabbage needs potting up, they say can't plant out till last frost, which is probably still a month away.

Hi @droopsnoot, the first couple of leaves are the ones the plant use to push through the soil when germinating. True leaves are the leaves that look like the ones the fruit/veg are supposed to have, in the case of tomatoes, the ones that have a "cut" in them.

Thanks, I have three more tiny shoots now so I will leave these a little longer before re-potting them.

    Bloody wind.

It’s about 25mph here in South Wales and we live on top a mountain.
I went out earlier to find a few things in the greenhouse had fallen over.
Ive scooped things up and put them back in tubs and have nestled them all safely on the floor now but god knows what’s in what pot!
I may have to resift them tomorrow once the wind has died down and I’m going to move the greenhouse.

We have an area by our back door where it will be sheltered on 3 sides but it means we will have a small space between the greenhouse and the side of the house for the dogs to pass (about 2.5ft) but to be honest it’s only really the dogs, me and holly who use the garden so it won’t matter too much.

Ive been out and rechecked again and everything seems safe enough on the floor at the minute.

I have ordered some self adhesive Velcro as well so that should be here Wednesday so I can get the door mended too.

I did noticed though in my seed retrieving moment that her pea seeds have put down some good shoots so far so she’s excited about that!

Also making a file and going to buy any cheap seeds I find to make a little stockpile for us so we have plenty on hand.

The session on allotment was lovely this morning. My previous attempt to use windows for heating soil/big cloche, didn't really work, was too open on sides. Done a new one today using a pallet collar and 3 windows. A much better seal all around. Planted radishes, beetroot, lettuce, shard and perpetual spinach. The plan is to lift the chard and p. spinach seedlings, which will leave space for the beetroot. Same with half the lettuce. Saw a video online of planting radishes in egg trays, so done 1/2 in trays to see if it works.
Ms C is doing soil for the pots at home this afternoon so i can plant tomorrow.
With the lovely weather our windowsill getting very hot during the days, so we making space to take everything out for a few hours during the day. It was over 30C by lunchtime today in window area!
