Good to hear you're over the worst, @Laura_Elsewhere, though sorry to hear Mr E has Covid now. I hope he stays okay.
Your new project sounds interesting, I really enjoyed my isolation knitting, needlecraft is the perfect balance of something nice to do without too much exertion.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Glad you are felling better, and hope Mr E does soon.
My project right now is using up some of my dozens(?)( hundreds? sshhh) of less than half balls of yarn into random granny squares to eventually make into a blanket. My stash has more bits of yarn than full balls, so I decided to do something about it!2025 Fashion on the ration

I finished a tiny bit of sewing today: I'd bought DGD a little dress significantly marked down due to a hole in the sleeve. This was some months ago and I made myself embroider over the hole before she outgrows it. The original plan didn't work out as I couldn't cover the area with a neat flower, I had to darn then added a border so it tones with the dress colours but has a little heart patch.
I really need to add the backing to the baby blanket but can I find it anywhere? Of course not. I remember putting it away when I decided not to use it... sigh.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

I think this may be the thread where someone kindly recommended Debbie Shore's Sewing Room Secrets books (Machine sewing/ Essential skills for dressmakers). There's also one on quilting.
I saw them in The Works today at £4 apiece if anyone is still looking for copies.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Well, I may have tested negative on Tuesday and been really just having Proper Rests each day as a precaution because, honestly, I've hardly been ill at all with the Plague, not compared to many...
...until you look at the sewing I've done this week.
I deliberately chose something a) simple, b) ready to do and c) that I'd done before with no problems.
One crocheted edging and shoulder-straps in dark red, and one rectangle of unbleached linen to sew it onto, with some buttons up the CF seam for a front-fastening camisole, in unbleached linen with a dark red yoke.
Done it before, had everything ready for months waiting, the yoke has been double-dyed, hand-rinsed excess dye out and has gone into mixed ordinary washes three times to be sure.
Yay, go for it!
First, fold over the hem on the top edge of the linen and carefully sew the crocheted edging on, making sure to use hundreds of very tiny, neat stitches that you feel very proud about.
Next, discover you've sewn it on inside-out so the folded-over hem is on the outside...
Retrieve this mistake by using red thread to sew down the folded edge all round with decorative stitching.
Feel very smug.
Realise you've now trimmed the linen and sewn the invisible hems on the front leading edges without leaving any underlap on one edge, thus making it impossible to button.
Consider a range of various options and settle for stitching the two edges together, butted, making it now a pull-over-the-head camisole instead of a front-fastening one.
Realise it's now probably not wearable til you lose a bit of weight, as it was intended to front-fasten, and it isn't really loose enough for a pullover one. Never mind, though.
Manage to sew the lower edge's hem without ANY mistakes at all, hurrah!
Pop it into a quick cold-water machine rinse-cycle to settle it all in.
Discover the previously washed red has now blotched ALL over the unbleached linen, irretrievably...
It will now be dyed in its entirety, as I have some Dylon machine-dye in 'rosewood' which is a nice deep paprika-red. Not what I had planned, but still, it will look nice enough.
But jings - HOW MANY MISTAKES?!?!>?
Yeah, totally fine. Absolutely recovered...!2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

Oh dear! Can I just say, those are the sort of mistakes I make without having the excuse of Covid!
